First step is totally out of debt
Second is solid passive income
Third is close family altruism (cheap, they're mostly in good shape)
Fourth is close friend altruism (there's maybe 3 people in this category)

Never give money outright, pay for whatever directly, and do it sparingly

One of the dumbest things you could do is just give away wealth to your family or friends. They would just squander it on bullshit, become broke again, and ask you for more (rather, demand). So you're stuck in a situation where you feel obligated to "help" them out or risk straining your relationship. Even worse if you are giving gibs to multiple people wo can then gang up on you and shame you for not being a paypig. Best is to never give them anything unless absolutely necessary (medical treatment) and when you do, act like it's extremely financially stressful. Failing that you need to buck the fuck up and tell your family to fuck off if they start trying to leech.
