this is a big no no though I guess this also depends on the country and which area you’re in. I always include a clear no-pets clause in the contract, something along the lines of
>tenant shall not keep or allow any pets or animals on the premises during the lease, unless they have written permission from the landlordIf I catch someone breaking that, there’s options like either I terminate the lease if I think it’s going to be a problem but if it’s something small and harmless to the property and inside a cage like a hamster or a bird and I’m not in the mood to start looking for a new tenant right away, I just raise the rent. If they don’t like it, they can move out.
Had one guy sneak in a bird once and I let it slide but bumped the rent while I lined up a replacement.
