For managers, it's more so that they need someone there at all times, and you coming in later means setting up later, which can in their view at least, steal time.
Rule of thumb, if this is an issue with your boss, get out of that job fast. People are coming in late and rushing to go home for a reason, and if your boss can't seen that then perhaps that's why their turnover rate is so high.
