Like this anon intimated, the western world has been running on algorithms (and decaying/stagnating) since the 70s. Throw some chaos in the machinery and they'll break. The sanest, most rational policy is to deviate from gilded prison globohomo milquetoast suicide pact before an external power (russia and/or china most likely) comes in and breaks it first
