if the gold tariffs are indeed the first moves on the road to capital controls, what policies could we expect next logically?

Can you get capital control by accident?
It's pretty obvious that Trump really dislike the trade deficit and use blanket tariffs to get rid of it. There are no ulterior reason, there is no grand plan, it's just mercantilism 2.0 with the sole purpose of hoarding $.
It doesn't matter if it is gold, chocolate or watches that is imported, every dollar spend abroad is a dollar lost.

Unilateral currency controls, basically they will print usd and buy foreign currency to force equalization

There could also be a multilateral solution(agreement between countries) but this seems unlikely to me as the countries we need to do this with are difficult to work with(China). This also explodes stocks and housing so its possible we see some ham fisted measures to prevent this

Gold tariffs are only for the type of bars people could buy.
The 400 oz bars that whales and institutions buy dont have any tariffs on them.
