Chrome books brag about security. Checks during boot sequence. Linux gives full control over your destiny. As secure as you are willing to read and apply the knowledge.

Windows and Apple I feel like in along for their ride.

Does anyone prefer to login to their trading and bank accounts in one operating system I’ve the other.

I use Linux, but is a name brand Chromebook any less secure. A live USB Linux distro always seemed secure enough. No partition is writable.

You should be good to go with a MrChromeBox firmware and a Linux distro. ChromeOS isn't really trustworthy since it's a Google thing

Thanks. I know Google is basically spyware. Ad sales. I guess I would have to trust their business model and board.

I’ll stick with Linux. I like the ideal of a chrome book though.

I bought a used Chromebook for 60 bucks from the PC World site, probably a school issued one, anyway the N key stopped working shortly thereafter. Is this bullish for Zoomers?

Yeah, apparently it's easy to put a libre firmware on your chromebook. But I don't have one so I may be wrong

I had an old chrome book and failed to install a distro. I am going to look into the MrChromeBook firmware. I might buy one and give it a try.

I enjoyed the old net books. I would like to make the MrChromeBook firmware work with a distro.

Thanks for the replies.

I have no doubt!

I want a cheaper version with Linux to carry around. I suppose a Mac book air with a simple Linux Mint install would be optimal. I use my iPhone to trade sometimes, so I guess I trust Apple enough, but I probably shouldn’t!

I bought an Asus Vivobook laptop for under $170 in 2019. It was very snappy with Linux Mint but it crapped out on me a year or two ago. Maybe the RAM died. You can try your luck with that.

Thanks.

I never have hardware issues. I run up against updates expiring and failing to install Linux on chips I’m not familiar with.

I’ll look into it. I have good luck with ten year old intel chips as long as I don’t spill drinks on they keyboard.
