Why is food, and the appreciation of it so prominent in manga/anime? A lot of times it's just...there, meticulously detailed, spanning the whole page, and doesn't advance the plot or serve any particular narrative purpose besides perhaps giving a moment of respite in a story beat. I'm not complaining, its fun to look at food, but wonder where this cultural nuance comes from.
>>21482935 (OP)Most japanese tv is people eating and a corner facecam reacting to the reaction of the person eating
In Japan, it is a part of their culture to enjoy eating good tasting food. No other culture in the world is like that.
>>21482954I feel like it's just anglo descended cultures that are so careless about food, particularly the UK, USA and Australia. I'm guessing there is some puritanical or victorian norm about not overindulging in pleasures that plays a part. Interestingly they've got higher obesity rates than comparatively developed countries.
>>21482966I have no idea what you are trying to say. Each of your sentences contradicts another sentence in your paragraph.
I don't know, I don't think it's abnormal. Pretty much every nation on earth has cooking shows and cooking celebrities and whatnot.
Although it is true and probably interesting that the genre of "fictional cooking show" (completely made up fantasy food) is a thing that has only been popular in japanese media.
>>21482966Utterly nonsensical post. It's like someone of limited intelligence attempting to appear intellectual. Very difficult to read

>>21482966>>21482991I am pointing out the paradox specifically you idiots, its not hard to grasp. The theory is that repression of desires creates freaks and the very things you're trying to suppress, same as with sex.
Japan had big food scarcity issues, before, during, and after their involvement in the second world war. So, when they write scenes depicting characters either living lavishly, or dreaming about it, gourmet food is involved. Beef is expensive, so beef is a special meal to fantasize about, for example.
I'd surmise this is also why a lot of British fiction did the same thing. Tolkien, Jacques, Rowling all have fantasy series, and each novel in each series features incredibly detailed depictions of feasts. The average jap eats rice and rotting soybeans, any kind of meat is a special treat, and the average Brit eats canned beans on toast, a meal that came about directly from the rationing during the war.
I know nothing of German fiction, I have no idea what Germans do for fun.

>>21483021You're seriously saying Americans are so fat, because class and dignity around consumption is so prevalent there? You must be really delusional
>>21483021Walnut-brain cannon going on here. Mental gymnastics and word salads galore
>>21482935 (OP)japs are obsessed with glazing their own food culture
they always depict their food as being the best in the world
whenever they show a character eating japanese food for the first time they are always blown away like "wow i can't believe food could taste this good"
even if it's just fucking instant ramen noodles in a plastic cup
they cannot help themselves
