We've got grinding, we've got baking, we've got simmering and steeping.

Other dude had a "what kinds of edibles do you make" thread and tonight I was making a batch anyway.

This was $25 for the ounce. Cheap and easy to use with less work for me.
I used half of it in the last batch and I'm using the remaining half ounce in this batch.

These are the details if any of it is to be believed. Weed is weed as far as I'm concerned. Would a batch made with a sativa of a different strength feel different? I don't know. Probably a little. But I don't think too much about it. It all works.

So it's dumped onto the foil and going into the oven for a few minutes. I go 10 min at 300. Recipe says 5 min at 325 and most decarb guides suggest like 40 minutes at 275, so I split the difference. It's always served me well.

Okay, and it's toasted. Notice how it's a golden color now. The whole house smells like weed. The hood fan is on so maybe the neighborhood too. It's a pleasant aroma.

I'm pouring it into the mason jar it will be simmered and eventually stored in.

Here's the other main component. I'll use half of this pint for the half ounce of cannabis. It's a pretty simple ratio to remember.

And a quick stir and it can go into a water bath.

Adding a cinnamon stick. Why not?

Coffee filter into funnel.

Funnel into temporary receptacle.

So after simmering about 30 minutes it's ready. The alcohol simmers at a lower temperature than water, so you'll have to keep an eye on it. You don't want too much agitation. But you do want to reduce and concentrate the liquid as well as get as much of the active compounds out of the herbs.
If you were to keep going you'd end up with R.S.O. But I don't want that.

After is drains, you'll want to employ a rubber glove to squeeze every drop you can out of the wad.

If a flake or two escapes it's no big deal at all. In fact I won't be throwing anything away except that filter. Eventually.

The filter split, but hardly any got through. I'll run it through a chinois just to be safe. This I will wrap and keep in the fridge. I'll add a couple of tablespoons of the booze-dampened leftovers into microwave mug cakes throughout the week. They pack about 50mg worth of stoning. I don't mind the grit. Tastes good to me.
At my house we use every part of the buffalo.

Even the dregs left in the jar I've swished around with tap water to drink. It turns a cloudy white when mixed with any normal liquids, much like absinthe.
I'll drink this like a shot. Probably a good 15mg of THC in there. The finished product is quite potent.

And it's been drunk. Waste not, want not.

And it's done. I dumped the tincture from the coffee cup back into the mason jar I just washed out. This is the final yield. The average dose is 1/4 teaspoon. So this would last the average moderate evening enjoyer a good month or more. It makes sense to put it in a smaller container or even a dark dropper bottle, but I go through it pretty quickly. So $13 for the booze, $25 for the weed. I used half of each, making the total cost of getting blazed off your ass every night for a month $18.50

You can't beat that deal.

You can? You certainly can't buy that much of any commercial product for anywhere near as cheaply as what I made. I guess you could get a better deal on weed. But if you can find 24% Rainbow Runtz for LESS than $25/oz let me know. It's not the greatest weed, but it's ground and ready to use and the bag it comes in is shaped like a house. That alone is just weird. I still can't believe this is happening. If you'd have told me there'd be legal weed someday and it would be this bountiful and cheap, I wouldn't have believed it.

Indica flower has much more CBD in it whereas sativa flower has little to no CBD. That's why sativa is more cerebral high and indica is more body high. So indica for edibles makes good knock you out couchlock ones, and sativas make more uplifting focused edibles.

I know that's what they teach you to tell the customers, but to hardcore stoners all that is nonsense. And besides, so much of the effects of cannabis has to do with how it was cured and when it was harvested. Most weed is hybrids and I've found that the whole indica/sativa thing is mostly placebo. I don't feel vast, distinct differences between strains. They all do the job, and they don't prevent me from doing my job. There isn't any that "couchlocks" me. I noticed distinct highs more in the pre-legal days. Now all weed is pretty strong and bred for big buds and fast harvest. That's what the market wants. True pure sativas and indicas are few and far between. I go to a lot of dispensaries. You can't even find proper hashish. I've found it now and then at boutique stores. There's just not demand for it. And the Eastern outdoor crop and methods aren't used either. The more I research the history of weed around the world, the more I feel shortchanged. Even in this age of cheap, amazing, plentiful weed, it just feels so factory-made or something. I know it's a lot of different kinds of farms, led by different kinds of hippies and stoners and corporates too. But the romance of some special skunk weed coming into town when the only other options were BC mids or Mexi brick is gone.
I shouldn't bitch. I'm grateful and all. I'd just do things differently if I ran weed shit.

I never really see products talking about terpines other than vape pens and as convenient as they are, I just don't like that if they break, you have to go through the whole process of going to the manufacturer and all that crap just to get a replacement. Flower is just overall so much more convenient, but they only ever show thc% on it.

Yeah, but note the harvest date. It's nearly two years old now. It works, don't get me wrong. But that's why it's so super cheap. You have to spend like 50 yankee yen to get an ounce of fat, crystalized buds. But that's still mindblowing compared to the $250 - $300 it used to run 25 or 30 years back.

Standard price for picrel was $40 right up until legalization. Often more, depending on your location. If you could even find weed so good. In fact, this is from when I made tincture for a thread on 420chan in 2012 or so.

Such a cute little batch. Now I make 4X the amount. Weed is so much cheaper.

Some on that list are "b-buds" (little popcorn nugs) of strains like Blue Dream and OG Kush, and some are fat nugs of newer hybrid strains you've never heard of but 30% THC.

Certain stores don't deal in bulk, "budget" weed. They carry glass jars with a couple quarts of bud in each, which they'll take out with the tweezers.
But there are dispos with the ounces all bagged up and ready to go, $40 each or 2 for $75. You can find some amazing stuff in there sometimes.
I don't go by THC or names anymore. I go by sight and smell. It's all strong as hell these days. There really isn't any truly shitty weed available in these places. It all goes into making the many extracts and concentrates.

You can't tell from this photo but all of these bags are different and look good up close. Some are a little purple, others a little orange. But they're all over 20% (most flower sold is) and each has a distinct aroma.

They still absolutely have ounces that cost $200 and more, but they aren't miles better than the stuff on sale. I do get myself a nice $30 eighth every now and then, but it just doesn't make sense. It's 6 times the price but only 50% better.
I don't buy any lame weed. The lamest I get goes into the green dragon or butter anyway. But it's nothing to sneeze at when it comes to rolling joints. You can spend a lot and be a snob but you're really not getting any higher than I am.

Yea, I once went to a place back in 2011 cause the medical thing was just starting to get big in cali around there and I recall going to this one spot with some exclusive grown top quality cannabis. The flower was an extremely dark purple, almost black. And the guy said you can only get a gram of it cause it's a special batch or something. It was good, don't get me wrong. And it was expensive but yea, I get what you mean after a certain point, it just makes no sense to spend that much extra. I mean you can only get so high after a certain point.
