I used to cook & bake such bland and boring food for my sister. I've become so much better after I moved out, I wish I could show her and the rest of my family this. I've gotten so much better, I just want to cook & bake for them again.
What'd you do to get better? Follow anyone on YouTube? Just straight up practice? Any a-ha moments? I don't want to ask about your family because /adv/ice exists.

Mostly just a want to make better food. I used to make just whatever without any real recipes, I learned a lot from doing that for a long time.
When I moved out, I started following recipes as I would go to the store myself and get what I wanted. I've spent a lot of time just failing at recipes, making them again and again till I get it correct.
Best cooking recipes I've gotten have come from those Youtube shorts.

My problem is I am a really good homecook but I've never really cooked for other people even though I often offer even ask to like cook one of the courses during IDK Christmas or something or like I'll offer to cook some classic French dish when I'm over at my brother's place, which you probably couldn't even get at most nice restaurants and like they never let me. Maybe they're afraid I might actually outdo their cooking by making something fancy. Either that or they think I'm a retard and I'll ruin dinner. I'm a twin so maybe it's a competitive thing and he's afraid I will outdo him in front of my sister in law and embarrass him or something IDK Anyways sorry for blogposting. I'd just really like to make some classic patates fondantes for someone else and see how they react.

I have this problem too - I love to cook but feel weird bringing a dish to a get together because I don’t want it to seem like I’m “competing”. The thing I’ve found is people will decline a main or side dish, but they’re usually fine with me bringing a dessert.
