Total weight loss should not be the goal, you need to examine the QUALITY of your weight loss, making the distinction between lean mass and fat.

If you DON'T CONSUME PROTEIN, your body has to cannibalize itself (muscle, organs) to acquire essential amino acids. You may be losing weight, but not all of that weight is fat.
