Be honest with me /ck/ bros, why are pistachios everywhere these days? You see I'm kind of a noticer and I can't help but notice pistachios are being pushed heavily these days. They're everywhere. Not only in desserts but also in pasta, sandwiches and shit. What's happening? Who's behind that whole pistachios scheme? Is it them?

They're a nice snack, I know cashews are popular but I like pistachios better than cashews. I like opening them with the shells and finding the perfect shell to open them with, like a caveman looking for the right rock, but it also gives me something to do with my hands when I'm watching YouTube or whatever.

I'm actually a fan of roasted salted peanuts too, they get a bad rap just because they're cheap but I think they taste great and have health benefits too. The saltiness provides electrolytes and gets me to drink more water too.

The Macadamia is the best tasting nut, followed by the filbert.

I am already seeing it replaced by matcha garbage

It's a couple things coming together over the last 10 years: The end of the almond boom in the US leading to the next "big thing" being pistachios, and the middle east not wanting their share of the pistachio market to be overshadowed.

The US makes about 40% of the worlds pistachios, but that number is going to skyrocket to nearly 80% in the coming years as it takes ~8 years for trees to reach production age and the US has millions of acres coming to fruition.

Turkey and Iran produce ~50% of the worlds pistachios currently, and they've seen the writing on the wall. So they've spent millions in advertising to sell "Dubai Chocolate", a way to make pistachio butter seem exotic to retarded first world consumers and carve out their niche market to claim US pistachios are inferior somehow.
