They didn't have corn, potatoes or tomatoes in medieval times. Even chicken would be rare.
Pigeon with roast turnips would be more accurate

that's what the king eats, the food isn't the actual king, you kentucky fried ameritard.

assuming somewhere ~1000-1500 AD in central europe

>>21714496 (OP)
>Even chicken would be rare
not really rare
goose and duck were "staples" of wealthy folks
pheasant and partridge were delicacies served occasionally

the chicken as we know today didn't exist

>>21714496 (OP)
a more realistic one
>lots of game, roasted as whole (bears were really sought after for celebrations)
>goat, pig, goose / duck meat
>everything is seasoned hot or sweet sour, salty wasn't really a thing
>pepper, saffron, ginger, cinnamon and cloves as spices
>everything would be drenched in vinegar or verjus
>seasonal fruits, bread and various vegetable/ root purees (cabbage, turnips, lentils, peas) as sides
>even fruit usually cooked down as sauces
>fried sweetened bread, candied nuts, fruit puree and hippocras as "dessert" (everything was served at once)
>wine, mead and beer as drinks (all watered down though, e.g. wine typically had 3-5%alc not the >10% of today)

now go make your realistic feast anon!

im just curious how did the medieval people candy their nuts?
Anonymous No.21714837 [Report] >>21715011

>curious how did the medieval people candy their nuts?
not that different from today
(just as my last post this refers to eating culture in central Europe, no clue about other parts of the world)
>roast nuts (walnut and hazelnut were widely available, almonds or pine nuts too but expensive)
>caramelize honey with spices and salt
>cinnamon or cloves if rich, ani / fennel / caraway seeds if commoner
>grease a wooden or stone board
>mix nuts into caramelized honey and spread on greased board to cool down

by the ~13th century sugar cane become more widely available
and by the ~15/16th century honey would probably be replaced by refined sugar

candied fruits, citrus peel, flowers and ginger were also quite popular
candied spice seeds were imported from the middle east

ironically almond milk was a really priced desert as well
it lost it's appeal until the "Lebensreform" movement made it popular outside Italy again as "vegetable milk" in the early 20th century
far less glorified though

also had a food stand on medieval fairs for a few years and wanted to cook period accurate

the recipe is literally how it's described in recipes from that time
and if you have a problem with something specifically false, say so retard

>people really thinking tomatoes corn and potatoes didn't exist in year 1300
sure, they magically sprouted into existence the instant columbus set foot on the continent, before that the natives were eating nothing but beans and rice

it's called "medieval TIMES" not "european PLACE"

Are you really going to force them to call it "Late Medieval-Early Renaissance Times" because you can't contain your Columbian autism?

Medieval times only applied to Europe, like how "The Sixties" is American, even though other places existed between 1959-1970, they have nothing to do with what is known as the 60's.

>it's called "medieval TIMES" not "european PLACE"
the medieval period or middle ages refers specifically to 500-1500AD in EUROPE

in other parts of the world you'd call it differently
like the period from ~600-900 in China is referred to as tang dynasty
though very few places outside Europe and China have such a stringent, long recorded history that a classification makes sense
and you won't just anchor around a specific event

>>21715958
>before that the natives were eating nothing but beans and rice
Inca and Maya had an elaborate food culture
most of it is lost today
natives in NA mostly ate like hunter gatherers except for the three sister crops

at least modern food culture around tomatoes and potatoes really just started after columbus in europe

>medieval period
>middle ages
note how they're not called the "medieval location" or the "middle landmasses"
it makes perfect sense to talk about japan in the "migration period" or europe in the "kofun period" if you don't leap to unnecessary conclusions, because time happens everywhere on the globe at once
and it would make perfect sense for medieval times to serve samurai food like rice and pickles and to showcase katana duels, because those things equally happened during that period of time
Anonymous No.21717085 [Report]
>>21716859
holy shit are you retarded

middle ages / medieval period are literally DEFINED as the stuff that happened IN Europe from 500 to 1500 AD
the "middle" part only makes sense in Europe because it's in between the fall of the western roman empire and the start of the renaissance
and using the sub categories of early, high, and late Middle Ages makes even less sense outside of european history

>time happens everywhere on the globe
that's why you use a DATE, not a name when referring to a time

>and it would make perfect sense for medieval times to serve samurai food like rice and pickles and to showcase katana duels
no it would not

in my country, medieval market (Mittelaltermärkte / feste) usually specifically try to emulate the local culture from this time period
if not, which also exists, they name if differently
>historic market
not so difficult, ain't it?

I'd go to that

I took my boy to medieval times just a few months back. The food is pretty shit, however the tomato bisque was amazing that and I bought a big ass glass of
Beer with a mug I took home.

I’ll probably do it again, every year for the next few years since my boy is only have 5 years old and he loved the action.

They also had a pirate show that actually had decent food.
