Decided to put together a small F.A.Q. in case any curious anons decides to check out this thread.
>What are BJDs?
Ball-Jointed dolls. They're dolls held together with a string, allowing them to hold poses.
>What does OB11/24 mean? What about GSC?
Obitsu is a manufacturer of doll bodies, though their bodies are not held together with string, but by normal plastic joints instead.11/24 refers to the size of the doll body.
Despite this it's common to see ob11/24 used with BJDs, as the number indicates their size in centimeters.
GSC is an acronym for Good Smile Company, producer of Nendoroids. These dolls very often come with a neck joint that allows them to use the faceplates and head designs of Nendoroids.
>Where do I purchase doll parts?
You can purchase clothes on Aliexpress if you live in the western hemispere.
However, if you live in Asia or have access to a chinese dropshipper then you can buy items from 1688 or TaoBao, as there are way more options for clothing, faceplates, etc.
Here's a list of terms you might find useful while browsing
>水贴脸 - Water-based face decals faceplates. For 2d, nendo-styled faceplates.
>粘土人 - Nendoroid in Chinese. For faceplates, nendo parts, accessories, etc.
>压眼 - Resin eyes
>开眼脸 - Empty eye socket face (for resin eyed dolls)
>建模头 - Custom modeled hair-piece

I bought two ob11, they haven't arrived yet, I was trying to find a sewing pattern for a sailor fuku but I can't find any pattern? Does anybody knows where I can find one?

Really tempted to just go to Japan now to get myself a DDB boy via Dream Choice.

I did't find an exact pattern, but there's a resource list for 1/12 doll patterns here:

You can then edit the pattern if it doesn't fit to what you like. I also recommend referencing at human clothing patterns or other doll patterns when editing a pattern since it gives you an idea of how to make certain parts.

Head and body are a Volks Dollfie Dream, which can be purchased from their website although you would need to paint the face by yourself or find an artist. Head looks like a DDH 10. The body is an MDD and using a third party torso mod (looks like Kakuso) since Volks can't be arsed to make a legit boy body for the MDD size. Clothing, wig, and eyes are probably from Taobao, Booth, or from doll convention shops.

How do people make dolls? Do they sculpt hair and draw faces by themselves?

You can make doll through traditional sculpting or 3D sculpting. LaDoll stone clay is used for hand sculpting but I never used it for dolls so I can't help much with that.
BJDs usually don't come with faces so you need to paint it yourself, get an artist to do so, or use decals. The hair is mostly sewn using synthetic wig wefts and a wig cap but you can sculpt doll hair too. I don't like sculpted hair since most of them weigh down the head and I like normal wigs. Fur, yarn, human hair, and even feathers can also be used. You can buy or make it yourself.
The dolls in this thread are bought from doll companies and are made from resin or vinyl. Sculpting a doll yourself can be tedious so the majority of BJD owners did not sculpt the dolls themselves.
There is a thread on /jp/ for BJDs that can give you additional information although most owners are vinyl doll owners which are different from the dolls shown here, which are mostly resin.
