Spider-Verse writers are COWARDS because they never bring up this Spider-Man. We love SUPAIDAMAN but this Spider-Man deserves the spotlight too. Anyway I wish this honestly had more superhero stuff in it as it dives into issues about the society at the time.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed to see that the only references to him later is just one short quip mentioning him in the og spiderverse comic. Though honestly I think marvel would probably never bring him back because his stories are too depressing and generally complex for the niche audience that would enjoy it

Fake Red is like a 6/10, now that's a manga wth kind of the opposite problem of what the other anon mentioned. The superhero shit really overtook the interesting personal drama of the main character there to just be Far From Home Mysterio wank

The only spider-man I'm willing to read is the stuff that PUNCHES me in the chest like this. The Japanese author really captured the heart of the OG Stan Lee version and it's the only version I ever really enjoyed. Even the venom suit arc by Lee was K I N O in the newspapers when I read it as a kid.

I feel like everyone is trying to steal the magic or inject their own flavors into Spider-Man since the 80s and we are going to have to hold to tradition like some weird cult until a new, readable superhero makes their comic debut. I read tons of manga, but for me, Spider-Man OG 1970s is still one of the best.

Thank you for storytiming this, OP. I just finished reading Black Jack and expected some kind of cameo. BJ was formula + neat revenge story. Spider-Man is formula + neat tragedy. Great stuff.

I get what the author was going for here, but it doesn't stick. The professor was willing to put a stop to the whole thing after the bank robbery but it was Electro who insisted they kept going, so it's hard to feel any sympathy for him. Then again, maybe that's the point. That Komori's misled into doubting himself and the good his powers can do by someone who doesn't deserve sympathy.

It uses Spidey to tell stories about the state of japanese society in the 70s. There's a reason why there's so many attempts at sexual assault in the comic and why most people in the comic don't do a lot about that. Even Yu is hesitant to actually help people a lot of the time. It critiques the "keep to yourself" culture present at the time.
It's a wild manga, and Spider-man is such a good character to do it with, especially considering how Ditko's Parker used to behave. Yu is that turned up to 11
