It really depends on the parents ability to parent consistently because the parents who played favorites are gonna drive that rift.
There's a reason the Arthur episode where he punches DW strikes such a chord with so many people. I see no point of any more conversation with her. I thought living close to our mother meant she would help her with stuff our mom can't do anymore. Then I move into the area and find my mom's fridge is full of filth, her house is overrun with sugar ants and nats, and the outside is being destroyed by out-of-control philodendron vines. She saw nothing wrong with letting our mother live like that, while she hires a maid service and uses three Roomba's to keep her own house spotless. Our mother was also desperately applying for welfare because bills were eating her alive, since salesmen had talked her into upgrading all her shit to premium plans($200 for cable). My sister's response was "Yeah, it's getting tough." I took a look at her bills, contacted the companies and downgraded or cut off where appropriate, and had her bills cut by 75% immediately.
And this paragon of empathy is a nurse. Think about that the next time you need to visit a doctor.

One time my mom when I was like 4 or 5, we were at the park, and she asked me if I thought the other kids thought I was her sister, even at that age I felt it was a weird question.
Anyway, right we're dropping weird abuse stories, my mom ignored me to basically smoke crack my entire childhood and teenhood and a chunk of my adulthood, and calls me a pussy for getting loud with her, and when I bring up stuff she's done I get what the other Anon gets "That was years ago!
