It's a perfect bow on the series. My only complaint is that I wish Squidward was in the movie more since he was so integral to the show's feeling, but apparently he was written out because of executive meddling.

No? He didn't fit thematically into the narrative of SpongeBob and Patrick being seen as childish.

Someone like a month ago posted about how Squidward could tag along by being antagonistic to them and mocking their juvenile outlooks while ironically being childish, only to finally have a turn of face during the scene where they're drying out and singing "I'm a Goofy Goober" alongside them, finally having a guitar duet with Spongebob during the Goofy Goober rock scene to show him truly embracing his own inner child. It sounded pretty kino.

While that would be complete and utter LUDOKINO, that story only works if Spongebob just straight up ended at the movie. No continuing seasons. Nick was not going to do that, though.

What does everyone here think of the subsequent movies? In my opinion the second one felt like an extended TV episode in tone, which I actually liked, it seemed to have some of the spark of the first 3 seasons.

The characters did act slightly more like their early season counterparts in the second movie. Probably because they would be annoying if they acted like their later season selves. But the first half of the movie felt entirely pointless until they got to the surface.

Yes, they constantly showed reruns of it on daytime networks. If you were a kid either home from school sick or just bored on a summer day you probably caught it at least once. Tons of media also referenced it so it was just sort of something you picked up on regardless. And I'm just talking from a kid's perspective, it's not like adults just forgot about it.

It's neat as hell how Ween is just woven into the fabric of Spongebob. They're a genuinely great band too, I have no idea why they developed this reputation of being a spork random band. They have like 5 genuine 10/10 albums.

He'd had some ideas about the characters but didn't really know how to make them fit together. He purportedly got high as shit on LSD and listened to the Mollusk and that experience is what made him tie all of the disparate elements together. Literally the first track of the album sounds like Spongebob, Patrick, and Sandy and it's widely been speculated that he used it for voice direction when conceiving the show.
