It would become the entire focus of the show. The guy trying to figure out how to turn back, slowly enjoying it more, hijinks of dealing with boys hitting on them, and either resolution or acceptance in the finale. It's not something that can be brushed aside in the episode it happens and continue the rest of the series as normal, because then you may as well have just made the character female to begin with.
Also, good luck getting it made today without both sides of the terminally online political spectrum screaming in horror for different reasons.

It is fair that if the world is facing doom, that takes priority. But the character having their gender changed is still going to be referenced constantly and serve as a personal motivation to fix all the madness quickly.

Thing is, you kinda want this? Well not all the time, but like, too little and you end up with "Why not just make the character a girl?"
Of course there's also the alternative of a subplot of them slowly getting more comfortable with it, or at least of taking advantage of it, like in Ranma
