The two things that initially drew me to South Park was how

Season 8 onwards every kid other than Cartman became a boring goody two shoes, Shelly went from bully to a younger Sharon, Liane went from slur to an annoying whiney mom, and the show started doing serious morals.

Pretty much forever. South Park funds their other projects (Team America, Book of Mormon, Casa Bonita, the Kendrick musical movie) and they have complete creative control over it, which would keep burnout from happening.

Matt and Trey clearly lost a lot of their mojo after being forced to censor Muhammad. You went from 9/10 episodes being fucking hilarious and timeless to like 1 in 15 around that time.

It’s odd that both of them have kids around the same age as the four boys but the storylines have been more disconnected and out of touch. You would think raising kids would give them better episode ideas or character insights but that didn’t happen. It’s now a show about kids with the older gen X/boomer mindset. Super bizarre to watch.

I am not joking when I say Tammers12345 MLP parodies remind me of classic South Park. The characters can be really shitty but also really sweet and each story is unique. You can watch it all on YouTube; it's the only current show I like right now.

The franchise is worth over a billion dollars, and it only takes 2 and a half months to make a season. They like making it. I think they will make it until they are like close to death. Like if they got cancer or something. The hours they put into it at this point are like a part-time job just pushed into a three-month period. Even retired people like having part-time jobs, and they love what they do, and it isn't physically strenuous. They don't care about the quality of the show anymore. Not since season 20. They have the same attitude as The Simpsons. Even if they stopped writing it, I think they would be okay with other people taking over.
