Who had the bright fucking idea of bringing this retarded excuse for a character back? She was hated back in the day for being a lame fic-like idea and IDW had just repeated that same mistake with another character just a short while earlier. The whole Kirby thing was shut down exactly because it was a lame concept for a character, please stop trying to make "the fifth turtle" happen, it's like the "fifth member of the Fantastic Four" or "the fourth Donald Duck nephew" you don't fuck with it. Ever watched the Poochie episode of the Simpsons? The entire point of that episode is that you don't try to shoehorn in a new main character nobody asked for if there is nothing wrong with the existing dynamic.

1. The franchise has plenty of female characters like April, Karai, Renet, Radical, Jhanna, Angel, Starlee etc etc etc. You don't need to make up a female turtle to fill the role of being a female.
2. If you have trouble relating to a barely humanoid sewer freak created by aliens, I don't the gender is what's keeping you from doing so.
3. It's pretty damn obvious that if you are making this argument in the first place, you just have a weird agenda to see that the franchise must have one of the title characters be female, which isn't really a worthwhile goal because a female lead is pretty meaningless when it comes to determining any actual quality. Shit like the Bechdel test really needs to be acknowledged for the dishonest and shallow ideas they are.

I've no idea how it was handled in the long run because I dropped IDW when The Armageddon Game hit. Anything with a reading order chart makes me want to set people on fire.

They aren't the same not even slightly. Mona Lisa is defined as Raph's girlfriend and Raph has had superior legit girlfriends like Ninjara being his most stand out. And overall Mona Lisa's biggest failure is she's a pointless character. If she's not sucking Raph's dick what does she have going for herself? Being a chemistry student? Donatello is the master of all STEM. A Mona Lisa who is NOT sucking Raph's dick giving him a blowjob is a shitty useless character especially when they keep making her ugly and uglier and don't forget to make her EXTRA ugly in the Seth Rogen adaptation.

Venus on the other hand can add something to the franchise, her association with magical mystical elements. And spare me the usual excuse of "But magic is bad!" I didn't hear you complain when Splinter in Mirage comics tapped into the astral plane to fight mystics from the Foot Clan. And no one complained about magical elements in episodes from the first TMNT cartoon. Magic has always been in this franchise so its time to get over it.

The IDW Mona Lisa is nothing more than a glorified nostalgia Hey Remember That. She is worthless. She really essentially is written to do nothing. And for all her bitching about how her life sucks after Hob mutated her when she had Hob ready to kill him she did not kill the bastard. So all her whining was attention whoring because if she truly was infuriated into becoming a mutant against her will she WOULD kill Hob. Even Alopex celebrated when Shredder got killed off because he wronged her. And Alopex's resentment of Shredder is so concentrated she refused to collaborate with him during a global catastrophe. It was exaggerated but it makes sense.

Mona Lisa allowing Hob to just ultimately get away makes her an awful character. Same to all the other humans who Hob mutated. They allowed Hob to get away with it.

Venus is not really hated as much as you may think. She has a lot of fan art. Fans don't make fan content if they hate a character. Venus is more than anything obscure.

And people are willing to give her a chance because her raw concept does give her a hook. You can't say the same for examples like Jennika who really is a failure of a Fifth Turtle. Venus will forever be unique even if doomed to obscurity. Jennika on the other hand is an outright failure in every angle.

But if it makes you feel better IDW brought Venus back did a decent job with Venus and then killed her off so she can't be written badly anymore. This is good. IDW is shit so killing Venus off was great. Its one of the few decent things they've done. Another good thing they did was kill off Splinter the incompetent faggot.

Adding an extra main character does work sometimes even when the roster seems maxed out. Look at Damian Batman's son. He was created like SEVENTY years after Batman debuted in comics. By then we've seen lots of stories of Batman growing up as a spinster, raising THREE Robins to adulthood and out of nowhere here comes an actual genuine blood son? And people like the little bastard.
