Beauty and the Beast is weird because Beast and Gaston are virtually the same character but only one of them gets redemption because the script favors them. In the original fairy tale, Beast was a legitimate gentleman who was solely shunned for his appearance, I’ll never understand why the Disney movie decided to make him an antisocial miscreant.

General audiences would feel that the Beast deserved the curse more if he was an asshole, while fae when crossed in most lore will fuck a person up regardless whether they are an ass or not.
