Moore's last comic may be his best. Considerate yourself blessed for reading it. It's a proper mindfuck experience no unlike the Matrix, Dark City or one of PKD's novels. And of the rare truly scary comics.

The problem isn't the fish rape, really, and the first story was okay. The problem was, and Moore has admitted to this, that he had literally no idea what Lovecraft's actual writing was like or about, so we got goofy lines about it being about "monster rape," B-Movie style, when that shit actually only came from the B-Movies. The real horror for Lovecraft was that people did that shit willingly, and the resulting existential crisis for the protagonists when they discovered their hideous lineage. As well as a bunch of other shit not related to monster fucking.

Providence is him returning to the material to give it a real attempt.

Nice to see such thorough annotations. Stuff like this makes me appreciate all the research Moore had to have done to weave everything together. It's funny how the more you learn about the background he's building on the more you realize how much attention to detail he put into crafting the story. Even small and seemingly inconsequential things turn out to be building towards something.
