The mother of all stupid /co/ controversies was the Seduction of the Innocent book and its fearmongering bullshit, made worse by the fact that it was later discovered that the author had lied and exaggerated a lot of stuff just so that he could blame comics for all the problems in the troubled kids he interviewed. It led to the creation of the CCA, forcing comics to only be aimed at kids, allowing superhero comics to take over everything, and basically ruining the American comic book industry forever.
We could have been like France or Japan damnit.

The story was specifically built around an allegory for columbiners and girls who chase serial killers. But a lot of women thought the book was making fun of them for their own fantasies about fictional bad boys.
Then it turned out that the original pitch was about a young man who looked up to Vader and wanted to learn from him and now that the story was about a boy it was okay because "toxic masculinity".
Basically, a boy finding Vader badass is something to be satirized but a woman wanting to fuck him for those exact same traits is something you're not allowed to touch.

Here's the problem: People insist that they need to sell comics to people outside of comic shops.
The people who got upset, were either outside of comics (MCU fans and the like) or new to comics.
The people who know it's a fake-out, are the ones entrenched in the comics world. The ones that people on here are claiming are a declining number.

Marvel made the bad call to drag it out to a year and make it their big event. Once the election shit was going on and the outcry was spreading, Marvel should've just kept it in the Captain America book, have Spencer resolve it there and fast. Yes, it would've thrown plans off. But look at what happened when the actual event went the way it did. Nobody was legit happy about it. Yes I know about the Pym scene. One scene out of a clusterfuck isn't enough to say "yeah I feel good about this entire event".
