Youko's long-lost mom. Currently works as a cheerleader for the New Memphis Reindeer, Santa's sports team.

I love how this finale brings back pretty much everyone, even The Mukade Family from the side strips and Kimberly Kumquat from ages ago.

We've even got the guys from the Thanksgiving Hell House short story back. I call dibs on the Ape Forearms

Steph sure loves making fun of Satanic Panic era PSAs, almost as much as she loves, you know, that other thing she draws

Now nobody can stop the 2031 film Wight Chicks from triggering the end times.

One of you should make a comic of that in 2031

And that was the end of Muertitos. 566 regular pages, 587 including the unnumbered ones. Hell, if you include the 127 pages of the old 2001-2002 Muertitos and the various character pages old and new there's around 750 pages worth of Muertitos content. That's quite a bit, and I felt I got to know the characters pretty well.

I had fun doing this, and this style was less stressful than a single massive run over a day or two. I might just repeat it for Creamy Beamy(though that would only be 3 threads). Muertitos thankfully ended just in time to avoid the nasty crunch period Steph got into in the later part of 2008 and especially 2009, but I'll go into that more next week when I do Gorgeous Princess Creamy Beamy.

Honeo Death

Age: 12

Species: Skeleton

Skull infested with: Centipedes

Honeo's just your ordinary adolescent boy who got his skin blown off and was subsequently adopted by the grim reaper. He attends Purgatory Public School with his friends, and in his spare time enjoys such activities as playing video games and watching cartoons. He's much happier than he was in medieval England, that's for sure, what with the plague and the lack of Ninja Turtles.

Oyama Youko

Age: 15

Species: Revenant

Ratio of IQ (in points) to waist measurement (in centimeters): 1:1

The star pupil of the class, though really it's not that hard when nobody else is trying. Poor Youko is doomed to a life of rolling her eyes at others' actions. Like all revenants, she has a drive to complete a task she left unfinished in life, which in her case means she's a compulsive eater. She weighs fifty grams, which is pretty damn chubby for an ectoplasmic entity.

Ankhmutes

Age: 14

Species: Mummy

Current crush: Justins Q., M., and H. from The Sirens

You wouldn't expect a living fourteen-year-old to be this spoiled and naive, let alone one who's existed for over 3,500 years. Once a princess in Egypt and now daughter of a prominent politician, she's been catered to for her entire life. Youko is friends with Ankhmutes because she thinks she can encourage the mature woman within to develop, and Ankhmutes is friends with Youko because standing next to her makes her look thinner.

Lafcadio Ciccione

Age: 13

Species: Chochin Obake

Hobby: Becoming all-powerful

Everybody's favorite asshole! He just says the most outrageous things, maybe because his tongue is the only limb he has left. Notable for the billowing clouds of noxious cigarette smoke that follow in his wake and the constrant stream of jovial abuse.

Species: Demigod/Force of Nature

Honeo's dad. He's very busy, what with having to pick up departed souls from Earth (a job combining the worst aspects of bounty hunting, taxi driving, and neo-natal physicianing), and to make matters worse, the pay is terrible. He does get an enormous castle rent-free from the government, though. Occasionally he tries to start up a side business in one of the many empty rooms.

Chad Dracul

Age: 13

Species: Vampire

Favorite drink: C.C. Blood

A stoic and saturnine young lad, very popular with the girls at Purgatory - maybe it's that unconscious vamping effect, or it could be his mad bouzuki skills. He's usually to be seen with his best friend, Emeth.

Angel Pie Hova

Age: 4,005 (early 20's, in human terms)

Species: Demigod/Angel

Candidates for her baby's father: 13

Granddaughter of the mighty ubergod Jeb Hova, Angel Pie lives with her kinfolk in a massive, floating, golden trailer park. She works at El Pulpo Loco, where her bad attitude is tolerated because of her advanced state of pregnancy (which doesn't stop her from guzzling beer and smoking like a chimney). Like all members of the Hova family, she's locked in a vicious, millenia-long feud with the Siffers, which for her mostly takes the form of squabbling with Luci Mae at school.

Luci Mae Siffer

Age: 3,975 (see Angel Pie)

Species: Demigod/Devil

Sensitive about: Her huge forearms

The granddaughter of Stan, the legendary rebel who was thrown out of the trailer cube thousands of years ago for stealing a pig's soul. She and the rest of the Siffer clan live in the mountains, brewing soulshine and warring with the Hovas. Towards anyone who's not a member of the rival family, she can be quite sweet. Like Angel Pie, she's really too old to be in school, but as they're both dumb as bricks, they can't graduate.

Medea Lee Sunflower

Age: 35

Species: Unknown

Turn on: Involuntary next massages

The new teacher at Purgatory, following her execution for killing numerous children. She really does try her best, but it's hard when you're completely insane and those murderous impulses keep welling up. But her class can't be killed, so a few lapses are no big deal! Medea defied classification when she came through the machine, which broke before giving a definitive answer as to what species she is. She looks human, but something else starts to come through when she gets really, really angry, which is several times a day.

Princi-pal Hades

Age: Unknown

Species: Unknown

Quote: "Pomegranate cups put the 'fun' in 'school lfunch program'!"

School is fun! That's the philosophy of the school principal (or "princi-pal", as he insists on spelling it), who as you can see is even more insane than Medea in certain ways. His goal seems to be getting people to spend as much time as possible there, and he's got the activities calendars to back up this threat. Is he the real Hades, or just a poseur who took the name? It's a pretty poor Hell that lets all the souls out at 3:00, but he does his best.

Hatshepsut

Age: 40

Species: Mummy

Biggest victory in office: Exposing the hidden sex scene in "Kickle Cubicle"

During her life, she was one of the strongest pharoahs in Egyptian history, but after death, "Hattie" found she had to share power with all those who had gone before her. Now juggling career and family, she tries her best to manage her political career while still finding time for her two daughters and daily pitcher of martinis. But at least she doesn't have to wear the fake beard anymore.

Tsunomi Joseiki

Age: 15

Species: Oni

Heaviest weight lifted: Two rhinoceri, eight sands bags, one-half pickle (non-kosher).

With her affluent parents, elephantine body structure, and gnawing inner insecurities, Tsunomi was seemingly made to be a bully, and bully she does. Very effectively, too. There's hardly a student who hasn't had their head put through a wall by her at least once, except for the ones with no head.

Kimberly Kumquat

Age: 11

Species: Witch

Hobbies: Putting curses on others, cursing out others.

A nasty little magic-user who enjoys using her skills to manipulate others and generally give them a hard time while remaining safe behind her personal force wall. Tiny but vicious, like a ferret.

Lameesha Suitcase

Age: Official claim is "29 and 11 months"

Species: Lamia

Diet: One whole pig every six months (i.e., Atkins)

She may have a lengthy, serpentine lower body, but as long as her perky, humanoid upper half sticks out over the newsdesk, Lameesha will be be a fixture on the Channel 5 news. She occasionally goes on location, too. Her last name is sensuously pronounced 'Sweet-cah-see'.

Dr. Greensnake and Dr. Blacksnake

Age: Unknown

Species: Demigod/Artifact

Property of: Asclepius the Healer

Dr. Blacksnake is one of New Memphis' top surgeons. Dr. Greensnake is just some yahoo, but because they're fused together, he has to come to the hospital too, where his attempts to help (and insistence on being the doctor half the time) are the bane of his other half's existance.

She seems to work everywhere, but it's probably just because she can't hold down a job. What's behind that sardonic facade? At the end of the day, she really just wants to sleep.

Thanks for doing this OP, this means a lot to me. This was one of my first webcomic obsessions after Flying Suit Reiko and Zebra Girl.

Long story: Youko's turn as a Hollywood actress

Favorite main character: Youko is my biggest crush of the main cast, but for sheer charm I just have to go for Honeo. His design is adorable and he's a sweet little goober who's too pure for this world.

Favorite side character: the angel and devil hillbillies always give me the chuckles.

You know, I saw recently someone is making a comic called High School Death Party, and it seems to take a lot of inspiration from Muertitos, especially in one specific character

The original 2001 design was pretty generic and had very little character(and you can sort of see remnants of that in Chapter 1 Candy Stripers), glad they made him the black goo goofball who’s actually really fun to watch

Chapter 19 is the only one where I felt the fanservice was actively overpowering to the point someone not into that would have trouble reading it. It varies a bit otherwise, but most of the chapters are fine, PETA and Snow Ski are just comedic as hell.
