Back cover shows off alternate covers for the last manga parody. Again, sorry for the poor scans, I got no scanner and essentially no photoshop skills so the cover pages are more shit as I tried to avoid a glare

I don't think he cares much for the writing, but the technique fascinates him.
The strange Death of Alex Raymond book he did goes into explorations of comic art styles, and I think looking into manga which evolved so separately from American comic art interests him.
Glamourpuss was him studying photorealism by redrawing fashion ads, this is him studying Naruto by redrawing parts of it, the story is secondary to the studying, basically.

No wonder he didn't draw a human protagonist for Cerberus, good lord

It is bizarre. Putting the politics aside, it has a lot of jokes and a bulk of them are alright even. But more than anything it suffers from being very self-indulgent in a way that just doesn't work. Sim's a well-read guy and part of the fun of his work is following along with his deep pulls from literature, film, etc, but this reads halfway like another sermon that you probably can only get maximum enjoyment from if you are on his side. He probably feels he can lean into it as well since the print run is so small (my copy indicates a print run of only 815)

I had assumed it was panels just pasted from the manga, but after reading >>149038406 and observing that the linework is a bit shaky than I would expect from young Kishimoto, it probably is Sim

I remember that one time Sim was reading fan mail and someone wrote in one of those anime with sentence as a title. Sim looked puzzled.

Naruto is a ninja cadet with the ambition to be a leader which is why conservatives like him and Goku. Sakura is the demolitions expert and Sasuke's just the thug whom they're unsure about. I guess Tobirama appeals to conservatives because has an awesome deportation policy and Danzo gets to do all the glowie shit.
