And no-one but Reed was relevant in Secret Wars. And that was just in the last issue. A lot of you guys give the impression that you never read the books at all. Hickvengers was about morality in the face of inevitable Doom. How far are heroes willing to go in order to save the world (even when they know they cant). Iron Man was willing to kill and destroy anything in his way, for the greater good. Captain Americas high morality just led him to fight Tony to the death. Both paths valid, but neither right. And in the end they both failed and died fighting each other. This movie is not that.

The only buildup that Secret Wars ever had was the last 5 pages of Age of Ultron.

I think the Russos got lucky changing Thanos because, while a popular character, most people see him as just big space bad guy without knowing much about his personality. But everyone knows Doom is a petty spiteful bitch and love him for it. He is not meant to be sympathetic or reasonable, he’s meant to be cartoonishly evil but with a charisma and presence that makes him imposing.
