This is the third PDI movie made after Antz and prior Shrek, followed the next year by Madagascar. This is clearly the most weaker film from the bunch.

We should just start using these threads to talk about Shrek 2. I personally think the middle of the movie is a weaker point, doesn't have too many memorable moments but the beginning and ending are some of the best in the series.

>More emphasis on pop culture references, celebrities, licensed songs and covers
>Toilet jokes are nastier
>Comedy is more juvenile, cheap and relentless
>Disney jabs are more aggressive, including a 1 min long parody of their musical numbers and having Ariel killed
>New additions like brand parodies, tranny jokes, anachronisms, a celebrity cameo by Joan Rivers, and a racial stereotype (Puss in Boots)
>Real life people are now mentioned (Shirley Bassey, Bob Barker)
>Shrek, Donkey and Fiona aren't likeable or sympathetic anymore
>Gender norms have regressed
>Not as heartfelt or sincere
>Story is a convoluted romcom mess full of plot holes and contrivances
>Fiona is a prop and spends the entire movie in her parents' castle doing nothing
>Dragon doesn't appear until the very end
>Villains are more obnoxious than funny
>Dance party ending is cringeworthy
What went so wrong with this sequel?

He goes dead silent when you accuse him of actually liking Shrek 4 for its woke plot

Much agree. Also it's definitely a script penned on the heels of 9/11. It oozes negative energy. No Dreamworks film before was this abrasive.

Objectively better than the previous DreamWorks movie (the one with douchebag Sinbad the Sailor voiced by Brad Pitt)

Sinbad is a quite better movie than Shrek 2. Also better than the previous 2D animated film from the Glendale division, Spirit.

Does anyone really believeโ€ Zorro, but a catโ€ counts as a racial stereotype?
