Yeah it was pretty clear Matt Reeves read The Long Halloween and part of Zero Year (but got filtered by the Red Hood) and came up with a one and done story, he was probably not expecting to make a sequel much like Joker.
Expect Batman II to be Folie A Deux levels of fumble for this reason, you'll wish Gunn had the balls to take away both Arthur Fleck and Battinson away and force them into the Extended Universe.

Even if that's the case, how can you not be able to even plot a new Batman story in 3 years? Some people are mean towards him, yes, but I really don't think there's too much of an excuse for that, not even being able to deliver a first fucking draft? What the hell man, they're doing a new universe and you still couldn't crack a fucking sequel?

Superman has a good chance of being successful since you can always count on normies being stupid. Superman may have the stigma of being boring and unrelatable but Normies Are Stupid is the bigger trump card.

The sequel to Batman is rumored to be about Batman having Damian as Robin which is going to be divisive if they keep Damian's original personality. An arrogant prideful Gary Stu little boy who inexplicably is able to beat up adult criminals is simply bullshit. And that's not even getting into Damian's habit of insulting people I still don't like him for the way he initially treated Alfred one of the kindest characters in Batman mythos.

Got a better question when will Warner die? How many more failures can they take? Warner splitting from Discovery is NOT erasing their debt. So why are they still alive?

Because Ras Al Ghul despite being a criminal has a code of conduct you don't see him really being an evil sadist to his staff. I'm not saying the man is an angel but Damian must have seen how orderly Ras tends to be which he needs to be to continue his operations. Damian didn't take his grandfather's charisma.

That's Brave and the Bold, Gunn's DCU Batman, not Matt Reeves' The Batman

It likely won't have one until WB sees how Superman turns out. Doesn't matter if they're completely unrelated and not in the same continuity, WB is putting such an investment in a holding pattern until they see if superhero films are still viable

But even then, does The Batman even need a sequel?

I'm of the opinion that superhero movies should all be standalone. No more continuity. It should be about the hero dealing with an isolated villain's scheme. Don't even hint that other super heroes exist in the story which is why I don't like the new Superman movie showing off Green Lantern and other heroes.

I think you're stupid but not totally. There's a middle ground to be had there. Yeah, no need for a 50year long single storyline to be followed but ensemble movies have a lot potential. So, for me at least, it's okay for a movie to use more various camharacters but I'd like if we went back to trilogies at most

Matt Reeves started working on The Batman on February 2017. Over 8 years ago.
Between June 19,1989, through June 12 1997, a period of (a few days under) 8 years, we had 4 Batman movies. Now, that's not counting 89's preproduction, which was tumultuous, but in earnest really kickstarted only a year before that, in 1988, after many unused scripts.
Why the fuck are movies taking so long now.

Reeves' wife is dying of cancer and that's the reason for the script delays. People in the industry know it, but have silenced the media from talking about it, so it's become this weird Streisand Effect conspiracy thing.

He didn't pitch three films when he was hired (which was technically even before Hamada and had nothing to do with the Cult Leader either, so maybe Cereal Lord had some involvement. But in any event, he didn't pitch three films, but it was always understood that he was doing a triology.
If he was a better filmmaker and not so interested and invested in peeing in another IP like he did with Planet of the Apes, to 'make it' his own (and no real issue with him about that since that's actually what every director, script writer, comic book artist, comic book writer, etc. does with any of these IPs), he would have at least had anywhere from 6 to 12 ideas that he could adapt or use in a live action version.

>a first fucking draft?
They aren't reporting this, but he had delivered a treatment and chunks of a draft that no one liked - the writer's strike didn't help but he really should have worked on shit since lockdown, which gave him plenty time of get a good outline and treatment for the sequel and the closing triology.

Nolan is also a hack who didn't give a fuck about Batman but at least he hired and paid people who had some idea and left them alone for TDK and TDKR, even if they come up with some imbecile ideas for both those movies.

The Batman was my favorite Batman movie but I'm over it now. I don't care anymore. I'd rather get a new Batman from someone who can make more than just one movie per decade.

As you mentioned, '89's pre-production was a shitshow and the movie was lucky to get made. But once it did get made and was a massive hit, they greenlit and churned out as many Batman movies as possible for more ticket sales and to keep the toy sales strong. They didn't care about the quality of the Batman movies as long as they made money. DC movie properties are not at that level anymore.

Gunn already axed Batman, Joker got leeway cause it made a billie and Joaquin Pheonix was going insane. Batman Part I was a modest hit at 770 million despite years of hype and being the biggest movie post lockdown....
