Barriss was completely in the right about how the Jedi Order had lost its way during the war, and the fact they were willing to let Ahsoka be executed by the Republic is the biggest evidence of it.

As much as I love Fallen Heroes, I love the original idea of Barriss as an unbelievably pure Jedi. It's a tiny thing that adds a lot to the character; some good old fashioned piety.

I think it's the way that Barriss was offscreen and unaccounted for so many years that makes it bad. At first we have to assume that she died she clearly didn't exist anymore, then when the Inquisitorus was introduced we began to think she joined the Empire, because why not? Finally after all that buildup they have her become an Inq for one mission and then die on some backwater later on. They tried to do both and it was awful.
