It's neat to learn this scheme predates the current Sonorie's own rule. Adds a layer of legacy to her actions, the compulsion to see through a task foisted upon her.

Of course, as Ufal points out, her reign is her own in the end. No shifting responsibility here.

The problem with those ones is they were, almost by definition, not into working with Cresce. Ripa especially, despite joining for the usual selfish reasons, a staunch principles conservative in the group. "The day they start policing us is the day I walk." He believes in the ideals of independent pymaric advancement, and would no doubt be against working under the Queen, despite being Crescian and wanting to help his local Crescians. He accused Bastion of being infected by "nationalism" when questioning his motivations.

Similarly, others who weren't actively involved with the organization probably had similar compunctions, or were otherwise so independent and selfish they wouldn't care to work for her anyway.

At this point, the scale of the silver strangulations may not yet be known across the continent. A lot of the dead Tongues were in the building that got flooded, so Ufal and the Queen may just think that's how the ones involved in this died.

Ripa walked. And Ashley has said the only BTs left are Bastion and Darkest Paul, who are… not in good shape after offsetting together during an apocalyptic khert fire.

I think it’s safe to say the Black Tongues are done.

I also can’t see Sonorie ever working with Ruck again, and I’m surprised Ufal would even suggest it. But I wonder if maybe it’s just a general euphemism for making deals with devils, at this point.

My read is it was specifically about following up on the plots utilizing them. Ufal, though, also does not know the true state of things (neither does Sonorie, frankly), and so is also genuinely asking whether she's going to continue to do insane shit. Since it seems clear Sonorie is probably going to try to finish what she started, I'm thinking the answer is yes. Snake has fucked off, the Black Tongues got choked to death, but she's still going to try to fuck Alderode.

Duane would need to be someone with a voice like Anthony Quayle. English and proper, constantly talks with perfect diction like he's narrating a story, with a deep warm timbre.

Harry Lloyd who played Viserys Targaryen could probably pull it off. Too many english actors talk like yobs instead of gentlemen these days. He's also suitably handsome, because after all, Duane must always look too cool.

Sette's voice is Cope. The kid they cast as Hermione in the new Hary Potter series would look the part if they somehow got green eyes in her head. Need to dub Cope's voice onto her.

Weird that it's still trying to be presented as a negative thing when the story has already directly mentioned the fact that it killed off all of her political opponents and gave her carte blanche to dictate her dictatorship.
You can write a tragic story about a well-meaning ruler who is feels forced to become a despot, but this isn't that story. She's been on screen for like 10 minutes. So what matters to the reader is what it means to the overall picture, and in the overall picture it looks like Cresce got ridiculously lucky to the point of author intervention.

Do we know that it failed? I'm wondering if whatever they were trying to do with the black tongues and the dammakhert was able to fire off before all the deaths - though I guess thinking back it's probable they hadn't even got to that point. It seems crazy that this huge plot thread that stretches back so long in-universe will just end in nothing. I mean, it's not that Roger's sacrifice HAS to work, but surely we should see it at least attempted in full after all this bullshit

I don't care who she is, it's not about her. Although her getting attacked by Ruck at the only moment she could have possibly gotten away intact is one of the biggest instances of plot armor in the comic.
That would still have been stupid if it happened to anyone else, but it happening to an important person in her faction is just another instance among many in a row, which is what really annoys me. The one that annoys me the most is the engineer from the shrine getting away alive.

Anon, that's very obviously the narrative she's going to spin for the public (or at least the nobles), not what she actually believes. I'm not sure how the comic could communicate this any more clearly without having her suddenly shout "BUT SECRETLY I FEEL VERY GUILTY ABOUT THE PART I PLAYED IN HAVING MY FRIEND'S BODY AND SOUL RAPED BY A RAPESNAKE!"

She literally references ghosts on this page- ghosts in this comic being painful memories, regrets, agony, etc. She has felt the bite of the ghosts- of pain and regret- and it has changed her.

I don't know how to tell you that everything in the comic is indicating that Sonorie has indeed learned a lesson, has grappled with her actions and their consequences, and has come out the other side of it wiser than before.

Ruck is still alive, and the plans for the damakhert will be much more compelling to see in action from a POV that is actually *inside* Alderode, which is where the next book takes places. This is going to be a plot thread that carries itself forward, even if it will possibly be years before we see it resurface.

Since Alderode is about to go into civil war of their own(?) doing, I don't think a civil war would be that crazy. It would keep the "balance" so to speak.
But, no, I didn't expect that. I just thought the narrative was setting up Cresce's ruling party to take SOME kind of payback for their risks, after the engineer got away scot free. Even Ufal survived.
If history tells us anything, it doesn't take long for someone to take the crown. You're probably overestimating how much her death would hurt them. She's going to die of old age soon enough, anyway, so I'm sure they're prepared.

If the queen had died last chapter there would have been a complete power vacuum. All prior "preparations" would be irrelevant. The most likely scenarios seem like a civil war, a military junta, or an invasion by Alderode.
