Thanks for the storytime OP
Still a mixed bag, at least no worse or better than the previous issue. The writer still has a hard time getting Gwen's voice - "Irving Forbush's Ghost!" is a neat reference but sounds very unnatural for Gwen (or anyone) to exclaim. She doesn't need to make quips every other panel. But there are also moments where she felt more natural - her asking why she didn't have an Avenger's earbud was cute, the bit about snacks was forced I think it's reasonable she wouldn't want to get involved between Gwen/Peter, and I actually enjoyed her internal monologue here
>>149054349 about the nature of comics, retcons, and convoluted backstories. This feels like commentary Gwen would really have about how the inconsistency of comics can be a blessing rather than a curse and the most important thing is keeping things fun and readable. I like when Gwenpool offers meta-commentary on comics as a whole, it was something Unbelievable did well.
I wasn't anticipating Gwen Stacy to be empathetic - the brief moment she chills out and holds a casual conversation with Gwen Poole was neat, given the covers I expected only animosity. I still don't think this is 'real' Gwen despite the hype but it's nice they're not making her a one-dimensional cold-blooded killer and have her show some pathos. While she still kills Gwen in the end it's clearly something she regrets immediately and I get the feeling they are trying to treat her revival respectfully by having her redeem herself before the end. I continue to like Kate/Gwen's interactions and how Kate is the one to hold Gwen dying in her arms, Kate's a rare example of someone who's been cool with Gwen ever since she came here. I really hope they comment later how rarely death means anything in Marvel though, look no further than just last year with Kamala to see that. If anyone would get it it's definitely Gwen, and I fully expect she'll be back/bragging about joining the ranks of characters to die and come back to life.
