It's clear that Perez was a massive contributor to the new characters’ character beats and personalities, because Raven, Vic, and Kory were all decent from the get go, Joey showed some promise, and Tara was well liked no matter how terrible Wolfman wrote her, but the SECOND Perez left for COIE, Wolfman shits out Azrael and later shits out Danny Chase.

Granted Kole and Thunder & Lightning also sucked but at least the former was created just to die so I don't blame Perez for that one.

Comic book writers get it in their head that kids need an [insert]. When actually kids just want to be their favourite hero. Sometimes you get sidekicks like Robin. Other times you get characters like Rick Jones and his Teen Brigade in Avengers. He wanted Danny to bring the teen back to Teen Titans but then he was such an annoying dweeb they got rid of him. Because he forgot the cardinal rule that these characters actually need to be likable.

Editorial realized that all the titans save Gar were in their twenties and even Gar was written like a twenty-something with severe PTSD. So they ordered him to make a teen character and he made Danny Chase.

The chief issue is that Wolfman became enamoured with the character and how he pissed fans off, in part because Wolfman wrote him as an arrogant adult spy even though he was supposed be 14-15 years old. Editorial kept begging Wolfman to get rid of him but he refused, until Jason Peterson got made editor and gave the kill order (which Wolfman tried to sidestep first through Phantasm and then via having Danny be the Leader of the Team Titans.

Jericho was good partly because of the give and take between Perez and Wolfman. Perez wanted Jericho to be a mystery and barred Wolfman from giving him thought balloons, forcing him to use narration texts boxes to show his inner thoughts. Wolfman meanwhile insisted Jericho be a heterosexual fuck boy sensitive artist type while Perez wanted him to be a faggot.

As for Azrael; he was supposed to have died during Crisis but fans disliked him so Kole got created instead to die.

Abnett run was only good for the first ten issues as a combination of Geoff refusing to do tie ins for Doomsday Clock resulted in Wally being turned into a mass murderer, David Finch threatening to never work for DC again after he found out his cunt wife's character assassination of Donna was being declared null and void and Donna's pre crisis origin restored and forcing Abnett to restore it AND WW's utter hatred for Donna, and Dick Grayson's multi year amnesia hell destroyed the book.

Danny Chase's parents stopped appearing after their first couple of appearances.

Danny got kicked off the Titans after being a total and complete piece of shit that mocked Jason Todd's death to the Titans when he told them about it. He appeared a bit later fighting the Royal Flush Gang but wasn't allowed back in.

During Titans Hunt, he got "killed" by the Wildebeast Society but the Wildebeast agent that "killed him" was Nightwing in disguise (having foiled his capture and stolen his attacker's uniform) and left Danny a button with his Nightwing logo on it, leading to Danny floating around indian style with a tent sheet over his body and and a King In Yellow pallid mask floating in a hole cut in the sheet, as "Phantasm". But then Danny got burned alive and ended up merging with Arella (Raven's mom) in a process to purge the corruption of Trigon from the souls of Azarath (Raven's adopted tribe), who had hijacked control over Jericho's body and from that, hijacked control over the Wildebeast Society itself. And then merged with those souls to create one big ghost gesalt entity with it's own personality independent from Danny, Arella, and the Azarathian people.

Wolfman DID want to bring Danny back as the mysterious Leader of the Team Titans, but editorial refused and Phil Jimenez eventually revealed the Leader to be Hank Hall/Monarch, who was using the Titans to manipulate the timeline ala Maker in the Ultimate 2.0 comics, to eliminate anything that would prevent the Armageddon 2000AD timeline from happening.
