I guess that's true with IDFB coming out in 2026 since it'll shed more light onto the Book/Match stuff, but TPOT's current plotline is still ultimately leading to a conclusion and resolution with how Pencil treats the alliance and how Match is bettering herself. What is more than likely going to happen (and would be kino as fuck) is Match and Pencil getting into a fight near the end of TPOT since it's essentially the reverse of what IDFB is going to be. Match enabled Pencil's shitty behavior when she got out of the LOL and now Match is actively doing better but still has to take accountability, but so does Pencil.

The only thing that makes it kind of unsatisfactory is that the ultimate "closure" is going to happen simply because of the timeline, TPOT more than likely finishing before IDFB continues

They mischaracterized Lollipop HARD this episode. She was supposed to just be non-chalant and self-centered but now she's downright rude. I'll still eat up the slop because Lollipop makes my penis feel funny.
Other than that, don't shame me but I... liked this episode? It wasn't anything extraordinary, but I had tons of fun! At the beggining I got a bit confused because I didn't know what was going on but everything clicked soon. I think this episode could've been better if it immersed us more in the daily lives of the BFB contestants instead of just doing a shitty challenge. I'm also intrigued with Ballony's and Loser's journeys. I wonder when the TPOT gang and the BFB gang will reunite. I guess in the finale.

Satomi's the reason why BFB had good writing in the first and her and Pokey's unfair firing lead to the writing of BFDI in general going drastically downhill. There's a reason why pre-split BFB is looked on fondly by the OSC compared to the slop JNJ have been putting out after they fired Satomi.

This is a consequence of having initial personalities that are just "as they are" and aren't motivated by history (even if you never reveal that motivation, you still want characterization that's motivated at least in your head for most characters). There's definitely space for fully flanderized characters just for humor, but that shouldn't be the default (especially for works with many characters) because ironically it actually reduces how distinct the characters can be - there just aren't that many total extremes to choose from.

The way an audience distinguishes characters combines design, personality, AND history in the narrative/exposition, and history is difficult to make robust in a work like BFDI with many characters, little time for each, AND frequent bypassing of consequences for gags. I can absolutely see where a conclusion that "flanderization is the only way for people to tell these characters apart" might come from, even if I'd disagree with it still.

Ultimately I think the best solution is to have what little time you spend building that character history to be as dense and high-impact as possible, but that's very hard to accomplish, pace well, and still maintain the tone the series has.

Overall I think they've done about as well as could be expected. Pencil still has more motivation now than Match does, but this latest episode didn't do all that badly with Match.

It did quite horrendously with Lollipop, though.

problem is that you're trying to act like there was any depth to the final 6 of BFDIA discounting Coiny and Pin, but say what you will, CoinPin was simply kind of boring to watch just because you already know where it's headed and it doesn't utilize any of the remaining cast. Needle has an arc that never leads to anything simply because there's no utilization as to how her character ties into freesmart's ideology, it kind of just... stops. it's suggested that she's still with freesmart as of IDFB 1 but i doubt they're going to explore that, Needle doesn't really fit with freesmart since her chemistry with Pencil just lacks
And Tennis Ball is just Fries without a backbone (see him being more competitive), it was fun to watch for a bit but you can tell they're going to subvert his personality completely by making him submit to Needle so he gets into the finals

The reason why Fries would have made the best winner is simply because he was funny and his place when it would come to the storyline and his reaction to winning was going to be worth it. It's not necessarily out of a place of his character lacking depth, but the other characters aside from Coiny and Pin who are only mutually exclusive to each other's drama have nothing going on either simply because there's no room for the rest of the season, and in that case an actually entertaining character sticks out. It's why Fries was nothing special in BFB-TPOT

Vote to save heavily favors characters with existing development (look at Black Hole and Fanny), but in turn cuts off development that doesn't happen fast enough unless you choose the right teams to put on the chopping block to get people to "fail to save" characters you don't have long term plans for.

Vote to save just feels worse all around to participate in, honestly. I think it also gets especially worse results for a series meant to be dramatic, because you can't hesitate to develop characters you have any plans for whatsoever.

Vote to elim also lets you know exactly how much people hate a given character, which is always funny.

this is true but this contradicts some of the decisions that the writers make. the pin vs coiny thing was 100% deliberate since if the writers wanted to make the voting actually interesting they'd do TB vs Pin or Coiny Vs Book (case of two hated characters in a vote war vs Two generally harmless well-liked characters against one another), whereas keeping Fries in for that long guaranteed good episodes whereas some characters got out unnecessarily early (see ruby)

But now it's time to dunk on the episode.
It was overall a very bad episode and a waste of time. Even in terms of seeing your favorites again, it was a waste of time. People defend it by saying that filler is meant to be like that. Are they forgetting that, filler or story, there is a quality of writing and directing, separate from these genres, that can be bad independent of them?
Right off the bat, this episode has shit pacing. Things happen so fast without letting you get a breather. Viewers must get a break in order to process the events that just happened. From action to breather. But in this episode, it zooms from action to action, giving no time for breaks.
Another bad thing about the episode is the pseudo-challenge. Why was this needed? To justify exploring various moments from the past? Instead of, you know, just showing them? The "episodes must happen at the current point in time" restriction must be the worst quirk of the show, as it limits storytelling potential. And not even the moments themselves were worth anything. Most characters didn't stay in the memories for long to reflect, since they needed to do the challenge. Some characters weren't even present for the majority of the episode. This could've been a great, dare I say /comfy/, episode that would've let us catch up with the post-spliters, but instead it's a steaming pile of shit barely held together. Oh Sam, you never disappoint.
And talking about the characters that did have a meaningful moment inside the memory, what the fuck was that Match reuniting scene? Which writing, audio design and storyboarding decisions let this conceptually great and meaningful moment end up like this? This was horrible.
At this point, I have no hopes for the quality of writing ever improving in any major way.
