The problem with Superman is that he's outdated because he's a super-strong brick. He's got no flair. No aura. His powers are basic. He's basic. Which is a shame because he's based on some great archetypes and he could be reworked a little bit to be much cooler. Go away with the explanation that his Kryptonian physiology just lets him fly. Make his powers come from some basic Telepathy and Telekinesis. Bring back the Electric Superman design and have him use energy blasts. Go deep into Kryptonian lore and have Superman start using Kryptonian technology to aid him in his day-to-day life. Have him start using some cool gadgets. A lightsaber esque sword. Give him a mask and armour for special occasions. Basically have him actually use his Kryptonian lore and mine it for what it's worth. Otherwise he's just a boring brick. And that'd be fine if he wasn't constantly propped up to be the very highest tier of power. It's ridiculous to have a brick be at the very top.
Superman should have energy powers. He should have gadgets. The Fortress should be used more. He should spend more time being a scientist and an explorer. Superman should be a reinvented as a Sci-Fi Super-Hero, not a working class stand-in for missing dadies. It's the only way he can survive.
