There's no panic attack in this movie, just a kind crying because aliens left him...and the opening which has the most realistic depressed kid story I've ever seen.

Yes actual people don't want to waste time watching it.

Too bad studios will NEVER learn this lesson. Normal people audiences want the fun escapism, not the hard-hitting reality. No one is interested in another movie about the quirky weird freak kid being weird and awkward again. Notice how Tom Cruse movies consistently sold out for 40+ years? People actually like the cool, handsome, witty guy that is good at things and does well. The last ten or so years of the weird awkward freak who fails and has panic attacks never does too great.

People want escapist fantasy, not a reflection of how fucked up they are on screen.

You can blame Dreamworks for that.

Puss in Boots 2 affected the staff in ways one can't even imagine. According to insiders, the sole mention of PiB2 can cause Pixar animators and writers to run away crying. Some have attempted to commit suicide to escape the shame of not being able to create a panic attack as realistic as Puss in Boots

Kind of. People want something different after a point of getting the same crap for so long. When art-styles, themes, plots or genres are oversaturated, that's when creators and studios need to take risks and find the new thing that people want to see.

this. everyone thinks they know what audiences want but they're just projecting their own desires.
if the solution was as easy as people claim, studios would've figured it out already.

Studios do know what people want, and it's at odds with what the DEI hires want, so the DEI hires win out because political backlash is seen as worse than losing money.

I remember when cartoons depicted panic attacks unrealistically.

Didnt they say this for Dory in Finding Dory? Is panic attack the new gays where Disney has a new one every movie and pretends it's the first?
