Apparently Dante Basco has publicly expressed interest in reprising his role this year, if offered. He also went to some convention this month to meet with con attendees. Kind of random to be saying "yeah i'm interested" out of nowhere, and then shortly afterwards (3 weeks ago) Disney+ accounts sharing the theme song.

He can't be the 13 year old champion of the entire magical community if his mom is around and should be the one shouldering all of that responsibility
This was an early 00s show where a preteen was forced to live a double life and juggle all of his responsibilities as a grandson, brother, friend and student along with all of the training and work he has to do as the American Dragon, and literally no one gave him credit for all of the work and responsibilities he'd been saddled with which are far beyond what a kid his age should have to deal with

But if you make his mom a dragon then it becomes a very different show

I've noticed this with other old media too. Mlaatr recently got some licensed merch out of the blue, I don't even remember seeing Jenny toys as a kid.
Personally I think it's just a cycle, because of streaming services lots of zoom zooms are randomly discovering shows in a vacuum. As far as Dante goes, VAs and animators alike are hyper aware that the industry is in its death knells and are trying to drum up any buzz they can to desperately get one more round of checks before they resolve themselves to putting the fries in the bag
