I mean, the Absolute line in general has some surprisingly good books, like Wonder Woman has been pretty nice as well, but this is just so fukken rad.

Sure, art is fine an all. But what's the point of the absolute line? A quirky re imagining for modern audiences (tm) that commits the exact same mistakes that made the original stop selling? It's pointless.

I really like the art, and I like how it approaches the nature of a being like the martian. It seems to be playing with the concept of a higher dimensional alien being that exists on such a different level from humanity that its portrayal in the comic itself is abstracted. I mean, I'm probably not doing a good job of articulating it, but I find that really fascinating and I want to see how they handle it going forward. I also think it has really interesting artwork and that martianvision panel from the first issue was a neat idea. Not a new one, sure, but it's fun to still see stuff like that in a modern book.

I can understand how it might not click with some people though. It's a shame but I get it.

the way i see it there are a few options
>The Martian is actually just riding along with John
>The Martian took John's place and split its mind in the process
>The Martian took John's body and whatever is left of John is there for guidance
>John was The Martian all along who went sleeper on earth to wait for White's coming and The Martian we see is the original self manifesting after something triggered a partial awakening.

I'm partial to the last one because it ties into his kids weirdness in issue 1 with knowing what the Martian looks like and saying its his father. If the hid was Half Martian it would explain things.

That's an interesting idea, the last suggestion. "I'm the same man I've always been," said with the Martian's face, and also in issue 3 the lady on fire called him J'onn J'onzz.

My hang up is that the martian urges John to breathe deep his life, to enjoy his time with his family. And Bridget implies she previously was able to sense his emotions more easily and now it's more mixed up. That doesn't necessarily disprove you but it makes me uncertain.

John and the Martian are the same being. In order to balance his work, home, and Martian life, he needed to separate. My take is that the White Martian targeting Earth has required John and J'onn to coexist, which is disrupting his life's balance. That's why the color disappears when he fully focuses on his wife, but then the Martian's work interferes and the color slowly starts to return.

Well that's what I'm saying, it's pretty good by the standards of now which is just a universal solid. It has a nice gimmick, the art is fun, the story is novel, and the presentation is different enough to make it interesting and it's kinda sad that most capeshit can even reach that low bar.
