They said "It’s Smurfin Time" in the trailer, are making dumb internet jokes for millennials, are introducing stupid shit like the "Smurf multiverse", look at the posters, they’re clearly trying to pander to zoomers and millennials in the hopes broccoli haired zoomers wearing Smurf costumes will show up in theaters and act like autistic retards, and who knows, it might actually work. There’s no way they looked at this shit script and thought it looked good.

Minions: The Rise of Gru had tons of zoomers flock to the theaters to watch it as a joke, and you know what trailer released a few months before the Smurfs trailer? The Minecraft Movie, a movie that many people knew was gonna suck but went to theaters to watch it anyway for the LOLs. The Smurfs are a cancerous franchise, the only people who give a fuck about it are the cartoon spergs of the 80’s (yes they exist, look up shit like Smurf in Hand and Empath: The Luckiest Smurf), this is the third time they tried to reboot this franchise with a film, it seems they’re really getting desperate to keep this franchise afloat.

News flash, the only people who will watch the Smurfs in theaters are babies, babies that will act like retards thinking they’re watching an ironic masterpiece, maybe the film will even have it’s own "Chicken Jockey" scene, but instead of zoomers throwing popcorn it’s babies throwing diapers and splattering their shit all over the theater, sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I wanna Smurfin kill myself, nobody these days wants to watch good films so they’ll only watch "ironic" garbage, the internet was a Smurfin mistake.

You expect Gen Alfers to have watched the original Smurfs? At this point there’s more children who know Smurfs from the shit attempts at rebooting the franchise than the original series.

The worst kinds of celebrity VAs are ones thrown in for the meme factor, like Keanu Reeves in Sponge in the Run.

I know a lot of people these days online hate celebrity VAs, but I don’t mind them as long as they’re casted well, like Tom Hanks as Woody or Robin Williams as the Genie. Speaking of which, Rihanna’s voice does not fit Smurfette at all, yet she’s who they’re choosing to market the film around.

spitballing here, but they should've at least gotten someone like Sydney Sweeney to voice Smurfette. The reason why filmmakers chose Rihanna was just for purposes of marketing. You can argue that Raja Gonsell did the same when casting Katy Perry in the two live-action movies, which is very true especially during her peak early in that same decade, but at least she sorta fits the role to a lesser extent. Rihanna doesn't fit as she's a shit actress, and is nothing more than a huge celebrity than an actress that's billed for a major blockbuster

Not it really wasn't. It had some great jokes here and there, but it was mostly the edgy equivalent of throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. It was made exactly at the time it was supposed to be made

I feel like that’s understandable a bit for season 3 and the movie but yet again I laugh at it lot for how ridiculously over the top it is. Season 2 had tons of clever edgy jokes:

>"My pussy has a freckle on it!"
>"Relax Clara, lots of pussies have freckles, like Ron Howard."

They’re straight up doing the whole "Smurfs go to the real world" shtick again, but this time it’s in Paris

If I’m giving the new Smurfs film credit for one thing though it at least looks like it’s nowhere close to the level of shit as the early 2010’s Smurf duology. Sure the designs look like a cheaper version of the 2D-like 3D cartoon style in films like The Peanuts Movie and Sponge on the Run but I’ll take that style in a heartbeat over those horrendous 2011 designs.

Because irony is a shield people use to deflect criticism.
>lol i watch baby shit as an adult but i do it ironically so it's fine
>lol i like bad video games but i play them ironically so it's fine
>lol this movie sucks and I hate it but i watch it ironically so it's fine
Nobody can just like things anymore, they have to remind you that they are stupid so liking it is fine

Serious question? Did the Smurfs ever have ANY good media at all? The 80’s cartoon is nothing but your standard sappy 80’s baby slop like Care Bears and The Get Along Gang. Said 80’s cartoon is what the Smurfs is mostly known for, which is why that cartoon is parodied all the time in media and was hated by animators in the industry around the 80’s due to it being the embodiment of stiff animation dark age garbage.

They’re an absolute joke of a franchise that deserves to be left in the 80’s.

i mean those were characters literally created with them in mind for the roles. they had animated previous works of theirs as references for animation tests, its why they work as well as they do.

Mainline comics are good and still sell to this day (in Europe at least, maybe less so in the USA)
And despite your dislike the cartoons were mostly fine, especially when compared to other slop coming out at the time. Of course it's unwatchable as an adult and a huge step down from the comics.
