3. IDW Sonic IS popular and widely discussed online, the discourse has always been that said popularity doesn't translate to sales.
IDW Sonic gets more discussion than even most Ultimate/Absolute titles yet is still mogged horribly by them because most IDW Sonic fans don't buy the comic to begin with.
You have all this conversation, fan art, fan animation, mods, etc and yet none of this translates to actual presence in monthly sales charts.
I'd IDW Sonic was this gangbuster success we'd see it influence IDW's wider decisions.
TMNT is their true best seller and you can see it reflect with IDW's expansion of multiple ongoings' and also their attempt at getting Street Sharks as a similar IP. You can see other publishers look at the success of The Last Ronin and how Boom tried their own similar miniseries' with Power Rangers: The Return.
Success causes effect (and this is comics we're talking about too where it'd very easy for trends to take off due to how small the industry is)

Only in the sense that he leaves everything up to the artist. The writer can't be in charge of every aspect, but the ebb and flow of a fight and how it ends are all on him, and he's always been bad at it. All the best fights are from the artists just saying "ok I'm gonna have to adjust for this." Ian used to talk about how Tracey would fill in the gaps for him, and it's a big part of why his early stuff worked so well.

Like, yeah, Adam's layouts and choreography aren't the best, but Ian really doesn't give good directions. He's put several scripts online over the years in various places if you want to check.
