There is a story about a Fox and Scorpion. In the story, The Scorpion asks The Fox if he can hitch a ride on his back so he can get across a river. At first, the Fox refuses, claiming that the Scorpion will just sting him, causing them both to drown but the Scorpion manages to convince the Fox otherwise.

However as they are halfway across the river, the Scorpion stings the Fox, paralyzing him.

Before they go under, the Fox asks the Scorpion why he stung him as they are both now doomed. The Scorpion merely states that he could not help it, it was in his nature.

Richard is the Fox, Felicia is the Scorpion.

There's multiple versions of the story. I just remembered the Fox version off the top of my head because I was recently rewatching Star Trek Voyager.
