The biggest issue with this run is the lack of downtime between big moments and Optimus doomposting to the point of comedy. Kirkman feels like the type who would double down on all this, but the Invincible show is good and less chaotic than his original run, so maybe he's learned some things. We don't need the characters in absolute despair in every damn issue, otherwise you grow numb and stop caring. So I'm glad they are changing creative teams, they were not equipped to run this anymore than where they're taking it.

The "post-war era" started 2 years after AHM, in the aftermath of the Costa run, and nobody tried to fix it, the writers spent the rest of IDW1 doubling down on the war being over, outside of one story just before Dark Cybertron where Megatron gave a solid effort to restarting the war.

When DC or Marvel makes you "exclusive", it just means not working for the other. They don't care about you working for any other companies, and it's a moot issue because most other companies aren't willing to pay your Marvel/DC rate. this is a case where Kirkman must be ponying up Mora's DC rate, and Mora is still fulfilling his DC contract(and seemingly just for a year since more than that isn't feasible)

DWJ's ability to write stories about families was key to giving Optimus premium Big Dad Energy. Kirkman also, while still being an alright writer, has historically had issues writing characters being thrust into bigger-than-life roles and saving the world, and since that's also part of Optimus' story, I just don't know.

Kirkman is a shit writer. That's all. Especially his dialogue, read some issues of Outcast, Firepower, Invincible, Walking Dead, and you'll see that every time a character has a monologue or a conversation, they speak the exact same way. One-sided dumb arguments with small pauses indicated by periods between every other sentence. Then some character dies completely randomly.

OK, that last may not be out of place in Transformers, but be prepared for shit like Optimus and Ironhide or Kup or whoever having a long... discussion. A discussion that... goes like this. Then Kups head... EXPLODES, and Megatron is standing behind him. Then they... start biting and headbutting each other (Megatron having a distinct advantage in the biting game)... because they already broke each others arms... by punching each other... HARD.

They spent the first 21 issues being permanently low in resources and being forced to cannibalise each other for parts, a problem exacerbated by the fact they are also shooting each other to death constantly. Optimus had to use Megatrons arms because his own was blown the fuck up. Starscream had to use a mini car for legs and Megatron had to use Laserbeaks eyes, plus Shockwave almost crashed Cybertron onto the planet.

I'd like Grimlock and the Dinobots to be more like how I took them from the pre-movie and movie G1 cartoon: they're a powerful group of 'Bots that take the place of a combiner, and when the 'Cons have one show up the Dinobots are the 'Bots counter. Regular 'Cons should be scared to hesitant to face off against the Dinobots because they're mean as hell and dumb as shit and they absolutely will tear a 'Con apart as brutally as possible.

Yeah, I loved the early G1 Marvel Dinobots the most too. Big, mean, if required they can be tactical but prefer brute force, and they take no shit from anyone, not even from Optimus. Unparalleled in strength but occasionally fuck up due to being too arrogant - but even then, they are tactical enough that they can force at least a draw out if the situation is lost. And not having them as comical dumbfucks in the cartoon.

Like when they attacked Shockwave, and he got the high ground and kept blasting them from a cliff. Their solution? Bring the cliff down. They get buried, but so does Shockwave. Job done, and the other autobots can just dig them out later.

IDW at least did give the other four dinobots some spotlights, like when they teamed up with Arcee. It goes like
- Arcee, you take the dinobots and...
- With five dinobots, I can retake Cybertron
- We only got four.
- Then I'll see what I can do.

Also, Prowl combining with the Constructicons was an interesting too, the cons WANTED to follow him because Prowls analytical mind turned their mindless destruction into art, they could now properly comprehend every piece of rubble that flew out in all directions when they smashed something, and it made them cream their pants.

I think it was in IDW, but I vaguely recall an exchange between Optimus Prime and Slag (or I guess he's Slug now). I forget the context exactly, but I think some Decepticons got up to no good and the Autobots were all riled up and it led to some fighting.

Prime is upbraiding Slag and suspects him of killing some Decepticons, but has no proof, if memory serves, and he says something to the effect of "you're just a gun who can't come to terms with being anything else."
