I think also too much competition from other family films like the Lilo & Stitch remake and the How To Train Your Dragon remake. Definitely think more families are flocking to those than Elio. Plus, it’s Pixar’s second space movie in three years, so perhaps people are getting tired of space stories.
I saw the movie yesterday and thought it was pretty cute. Not the best Pixar by any means, but found it more enjoyable than let’s say Elemental, Brave, or Onward (my least favorite Pixar films out of the ones I’ve seen). I wish the communiverse had more development. Also wish we had more scenes with the main villain, as it feels like he’s only in like a third of the movie. But Elio and Glordon’s friendship is cute and I think the scene with Lord Grigon swaddling his son is touching too.
Overall, flawed but still enjoyable at the very end.
