A year ago there was a thread about modern cartoons that you think will be forgotten about. And of course /co/ took that to mean cartoons the don't like and think are le bad. Steven Universe was a mess but the fandom was huge but there was so much debate and arguments over the quality of it, over what it represents, on either side, it's still looked back on in different shades of light. It'll be mentioned for a long while
As for Voltron, the minute it fucking died you never heard about it again. The horse show did more to revive an 80's franchise, Thundercats 2011 got talked about less but I think still rings in people's head over getting no ending and then getting a bad reboot, Voltron isn't even talked about in regards to mecha. I guess the tomboy nerd girl is something I see often.
Maybe I just didn't go on female spaces and that's where most of the talk for it went on. So it just looks forgotten to me

1.) Wasted potential; the original was bad, and I didn't expect much out of this reboot, but the first season was actually reasonably good, and I liked it. Alas the writing didn't hold up; things being introduced and forgotten afterwards (Alura being able to shapshift and being super strong, for instance), plot threads being rushed through because of screen time being wasted on filler episodes/content, plot threads being resolved badly, inconsistent characterization, all due to the writers not actually creating a full story outline at the start combined with executive meddling.

2.) Insane Tumblr shipping communities. There are STILL people doing Sheith crap, and it's been how many years now? It's like a fucking cult.

I was only on the fringe of the fandom, but from what I remember klance shippers were the cult psychos with death threats to the writing team and calling sheith shippers pedos. Maybe my friends were more on the sheith/neutral side so I just had that side of the 'us vs them'? I've seen a shitload of klance keep showing up when looking for other stuff even today, so I find it annoying on principal now.

People still do ship and other art for fandoms decades old. You're a fandom newbie if you think that's unusual.
