Idk I think Kai is still one of the main ones in season 1 even tho it is a season about ALL of them.
It all came down to him being the last one to find his true power and he was also the one who cheered on everyone into not giving up after the devourer destroyed the destiny's bounty
And also was the one who came up with the plan to get it stuck so
I'd say Kai is anything but a side character in season 1 but he is also no longer the main focus like in the pilots

Personally season 2 was always my favorite as I was a kid when ninjago had the mini series, season 1, and season 2, I stopped watching after season 2, I loved the ultimate spinjitsu master loyd transformation as a kid and thought it was the coolest shit ever

Same. I consider that to be the true ending to Ninjago even though Jay and Nya were so insufferable in that season. I did continue into hands of time but it felt so fucking boring and it felt like the characters got regressed. Some are saying that it gets better in later seasons but I just can't be bothered. Especially with Garmadon and the Overlord coming back AGAIN and in a very uninteresting way. I even went ahead and watched parts of the Sons of Garmadon season and it was just as I expected. Rehash of Garmadon becoming evil and then good again by ruining his memory and the Overlord came back as his most boring and non-intimidating iteration to date. They have milked this stuff too hard

Ninjago is one of those shows that you really can't lose track of no matter how many season finales it shits out that just FEEL like the entire show's ending, for a few years I always thought the fucking thing ended with Lloyd becoming the Golden Ninja, cleansing Garmaddon from the evil within him and saving the day once and for all, then one day, a friend of mine told me the fucking thing was nearing its 8th season a while after the movie came out and to this day I still don't feel like I have it in me to try to re-watch it all from the start knowing everything that's happened ever since, it's fucking insane how much a show can drag on the second you stop looking, I commend everyone that's been able to keep up with this and other stuff like Adventure Time but I am definitely not that kind of guy

Dragon's Rising is a brand new show within the same universe but basically detatched from the original series

You missed peak, seasons 8 and 9 are the best in the series (season 1 is carried by nostalgia) 7 is utter trash though and 11-15 are mid.
There is currently an ongoing sequal series, Dragon's Rising, that's honestly pretty good. It has new, younger character's, a major shakeup of the world and characters and an overarching story unlike previous Ninjago which suffered from self contained season due to being axed or under the threat of axe many times.

I just overall don't like how pretentious the show has gotten.
The series always had an indentity of boyish "cool" and "radical" not only from the intro but all the other songs The Fold made for the show too
And it fits because Ninjago at it's core is the embodiment of little boy show.
It's about ninja men fighting skeletons and snakes and ghosts and robots and they all drive cool elemental mechs and cars and bikes and they live in a flying pirate ship
So I just think they should've stuck with some high-tempo punk/indie rock instead of this pop ballad rock....
Like am I being retarded here? It just feels like they're going for a different vibe and it's just not clicking.

That show was so lifeless that it had to be getting meddled with.
Meanwhile Sonic Prime wouldn't let Sonic wear anything other than slightly different shoes while everyone else was cosplaying.

you mean season 2.
Season 1 is actually one of the most well made one and that's partially because the show was still fresh and had one clear and simmple story
The start did a good job at setting everything up and the villains were fun and the whole arc with them fiding their powers was satisfying and it all ended on a really good action episode
also all those things that got set up had a pay off in the finale which ended in a great way to tie into season 2(which wasn't as good)
If you want a season that's ACTUALLY only carried by nostalgia you're probably thinking of season 2 or 4
