Why were the humans designs in the 2020 Animaniacs reboot so UGLY?! Genuinelly some of the most repulsive humans i've seen in a cartoon.

Because modern artists have a terrible read on real Looney Tunes. They think in very simplistic terms, like ugly = funny, and it's a comedy, so therefore if everything is ugly, then that mean it's funnier. Oh those clever artists! They cracked the code! But this of course is nonsense. It's pretty obvious that if you watch the old stuff (even beyond Looney Tunes) that the goal was NOT to create endless ghouls and freaks in every frame, even in scenes where caricatures are called upon. A lot of animated comedy now does not grasp the power of punctation and aesthetics, and just turns the whole thing into a very 1-dimensional effort. It's like suggesting that banging a drum uncontrollably is the "authentic" continuation of 1930's jazz, because it's upbeat. It's completely strange. And this shit mindset bleeds into other discussions too, like how people here think The Sorcerer's Apprentice is not a comedy, because it doesn't have shouting or TNT.
