Why the fuck did it had to be weed? Why couldn't get into beekeeping like a normal redneck dad?
Why couldn't he do something cool and related to his job like spelunking instead?
So many story opportunities.

For that matter why doesn't he hallucinate when he smokes weed? Trey is such a lazy unimaginative piece of shit.

Randy was popular, but it was precisely because he was used in controlled doses. You'd be enjoying a regular old season and then suddenly you'd get an episode with a Randy A or B-plot and it'd be like a little zest of lemon on top of a nice slice of pie.

Making him critical to too many episodes was like an overdose or just dumping a bucket of whole lemons onto your pie. It was way, way, WAY too much. I mean, Jesus tittyfucking Christ, the Tegridy Farms crap was the A-plot for like half of the episodes in Seasons 22 and 23.

Trey thinks because he's a pathetic old man everyone wants to see a pathetic old man mess up others' lives. It's like when Cartman got overused to where even if you like some of his wacky antics, it was too predictable.
If the SPS BBS were still around, Randy would probably have his own dedicated hater making a "Randy Pissing Me Off" meter the way the fat boy did.

Because Matt and Trey were there at the time Colorado became the first state to legalize weed and experienced the massive caravan of weed culture fucks that moved there and overturned everything else in the state in the span of about...2-3 years.

The whole fucking state culture transformed from western mountain rural country to Seth Rogan DUDE WEED almost instantly. The Colorado Matt and Trey were making fun of in the early seasons is fully extinct. What we see now in Tegrity episodes is the Colorado of today.

There was a choice to base less of the episodes around the boys and expand into other characters in the town. Whether you call that forced is a matter of opinion. I think he got popular because the viewership got older and found themselves relating more to an adult than any one of four children.

Well, the problem was when Randy became the main character. Expanding other characters isn't inherently bad, it's just how it was done

It's like a Steve Urkel scenario. The popularity was genuine, but the writers played too hard into it, and the entire show suffered as a result.

It's not even just Heidi, now that I think about it. The other minor female characters tend to be WAY more entertaining than Wendy. Some instances:

- Leslie, the girl who was secretly an AD in the PC Principal arc; great twist villain in a series when you usually expect Cartman to be the Big Bad

- Classy, the black hoe in that same arc; her taking no shits from Nathan and slapping the shit outta him is hilarious to watch

- Alexa, Stan's AI wife from the COVID specials; say what you want about her, but I love how she's designed to be a darker version of Sharon to Stan's Randy, yet in the end she does help him solve the mystery (in her own way...)

Compared to all of that, modern Wendy is just... bland. Dull. There's nothing fun about her anymore. All of that died when her original VA died, and nothing has ever been the same since. Again, why should we still care about her when the latest episode shows that even Stan doesn't care about her anymore?
