>>149231114Alright so, as you know, Marathon came before Halo. It is also heavily implied that Pathways into Darkness, the FPS they made before Marathon, is connected by way of the Jjaro having contacted Bill Clinton in the 90s to tell him about the W'rkncacnter under the temple in Peru.
When Halo was being developed, back in its early TPS/FPS phase after they decided to change, they began working on the story. With the Marathon logo featured prominently, many people on the design team began to see Halo as a spiritual successor to Marathon, but many others began putting bits of hints inside it to say that it WAS a Sequel to Marathon, such as having Cortana be the villain of first Halo, as well as originally having been constructed from remnants OF Durandal. Lets look at the Parallels.
>Jjaro = Forerunners>Pfhor = Covenant>S'pht = Elites>Tycho = 343 Guilty Spark>W'rkncacnter = The Flood>Durandal = Cortana>Mjolnir Recon 54 = The Master Chief.My theory is this:
Marathon Infinity ends with Durandal at the final moment of the universe's existence realizing what the player was before blinking out of existence. Taking the idea of the cyclical universe into account, the Big Bag/Big Crunch.
Assuming that the PC of Pathways into Darkness was eventually turned into the cyborg Mjolnir Recon 54, and that Master Chief was originally envisioned as one as well, I have the idea that more than just Durandal originally survived.
Mjolnir Recon 54's Soul managed to traverse Marathon's universe, survive, and was reborn as John when he did because that was when Humanity would need him most. Durandel was the legendary sword of Roland, and as such he was the player's shield and sword in Marathon 2 and Infinity. In Halo I-IV, Cortana(also named after the legendary sword, Curtana), was the Master Chief's Shield and Sword.
