Everything after season 14 was just Church running simulations trying to find the best way to escape the Staff of Charon at the end of season 13.
They also never reveal if Restoration itself was just another simulation, so you can still treat the S13 cliffhanger as the canon ending if you like. (Which I do, because restoration was basically just a rehash of season 8)

I don't know, it's one of life's great mysteries. Is machinima merely a niche application of videogame content that belongs on /v/, or does it constitute a proper animated medium that would make it /co/ material? I don't know, OP, but it keeps me up at night.

Enjoyed RvB a bunch. Rewatched it recently and while its aged, I still enjoy it.
I dropped it once Reach came out and they started doing full animated stuff instead of the typical machinima.
I liked the freelancer stuff before because it wasn't super fleshed out and vague, so seeing the new season doubling down on it burnt me out.

Alright so, as you know, Marathon came before Halo. It is also heavily implied that Pathways into Darkness, the FPS they made before Marathon, is connected by way of the Jjaro having contacted Bill Clinton in the 90s to tell him about the W'rkncacnter under the temple in Peru.
When Halo was being developed, back in its early TPS/FPS phase after they decided to change, they began working on the story. With the Marathon logo featured prominently, many people on the design team began to see Halo as a spiritual successor to Marathon, but many others began putting bits of hints inside it to say that it WAS a Sequel to Marathon, such as having Cortana be the villain of first Halo, as well as originally having been constructed from remnants OF Durandal. Lets look at the Parallels.
>Jjaro = Forerunners
>Pfhor = Covenant
>S'pht = Elites
>Tycho = 343 Guilty Spark
>W'rkncacnter = The Flood
>Durandal = Cortana
>Mjolnir Recon 54 = The Master Chief.
My theory is this:
Marathon Infinity ends with Durandal at the final moment of the universe's existence realizing what the player was before blinking out of existence. Taking the idea of the cyclical universe into account, the Big Bag/Big Crunch.
Assuming that the PC of Pathways into Darkness was eventually turned into the cyborg Mjolnir Recon 54, and that Master Chief was originally envisioned as one as well, I have the idea that more than just Durandal originally survived.
Mjolnir Recon 54's Soul managed to traverse Marathon's universe, survive, and was reborn as John when he did because that was when Humanity would need him most. Durandel was the legendary sword of Roland, and as such he was the player's shield and sword in Marathon 2 and Infinity. In Halo I-IV, Cortana(also named after the legendary sword, Curtana), was the Master Chief's Shield and Sword.

If we went by the original Bungie Lore, there were no Precursors: The Flood just showed up one day. What if they were the remains of the W'rkncacnter we helped trap in Lh'owon's star at the end of Marathon Infinity? The W'rkncacnter are strange, eldritch abominations that bend reality and space by their mere existence. To keep them trapped in stars and blackholes are the only way to keep the universe in check.
Whose to say that when the Universe of Marathon finally died, that the W'rkncacnter didn't survive? The next point of my theory posits that the Flood are the remains of this creature, mutated and horrifically deformed from surviving the death of its universe and the birth of the new one. It also explains why, when as a Gravemind, it bears a grudge against The Master Chief(besides blowing up Installation 04/Stealing Cortana/Destroying High Charity).
>"Child of my enemy why have you come? I offer no forgiveness - a Father's sins pass to his son."
But this goes into my original theory of "The Humans were Forerunners but then 343 said 'Nu-uh!' and fucked up the lore", so he could be referring to 'Father' as the Forerunner, though in regards to my Marathon theory, he is referring to his original incarnation as Mjolnir Recon 54.
He remembers The Master Chief, he remembers everything he did to keep him in that star, burning until the end of the universe, driving him insane until all he had was horrific desire to consume all things.

And thats my Schizo-theory. When I was a boy I didn't know that things could be seperate universes, and playing through Halo after playing Marathon, my autistic and burgeoning schizophrenic mind told me "Hey, this is a sequel, cool! Look, theres my guy!" Some things are bound to be wrong, but in my heart of hearts, I know that Marathon is there within Halo, no matter what 343, Microsoft, or Nu-Bungie claims.
This was what was suppose to be:
>Pathways into Darkness -> Marathon -> Halo -> Destiny.
But things went wrong, the timeline split, Harambe died, say however you want but when Bungie left and essentially disowned Halo, they broke their established canon, and the cords of fate were left frayed in the wind.

What was the season where at the end the blue spartan chick finds some sad old dude watching a video of him and his gf before she shipped off to war and died? I think I stopped watching after that. I liked the show up to and including that point. Didn't really enthrall me after that. I think I just got tired of the premise.

I hope one day we get a game about some ODST dude and an elite chick doing black ops stuff after the war.

I don't care for Church being an AI, I don't care for Washington or any of the other Freelancers, I think Halo 3 was especially ugly and everything in that engine looked like play-doh so I was disappointed to see them move onto it, and the charm was simply lost without Blood Gulch, that canyon was peak Halo aesthetic in the day and Valhalla was a poor substitute.
Plus they started to repeat themselves soon after, Church's proclamation about his laser face was just a retread of Caboose' O'Malley fuelled rant about hating babies in Battle Creek.
I will compliment that eras use of Trocadero, Flying By Wire was a great album and the Halo 3 era picked some choice songs, especially the Metas theme.
Finally, the Monty animation era was not very interesting to me, for all of their boasting about how the limitations of the character animations in the base Halo multiplayer bred creativity in story telling they sure dropped that shit as soon as possible when it became convenient to do so.
