What are your thoughts on giving your OCs imperfections like acne or braces?
>>149225792 (OP)neither of those are imperfections
cerebral palsy and MDS yeah
>>149225792 (OP)Depends on the situation. Is the OC meant for a story or just fun designs to be drawn occasionally. People have 'mascot' characters and not all artists are storytellers/writers. Beyond that, I don't really see any problem unless done in a gross out, grotesque manner. Nothing against it, it's just not for me. Acne and braces can just be on your OC because you like to draw them that way or it can signify certain characteristics, if you want to tell any story of whatever length/intend for layers to the character.
>>149225792 (OP)It depends I guess, but I generally prefer not adding too many details to my characters, so they all end up accidentally just having perfect skin and teeth lol
>>149225792 (OP)>poppingkys for looking at this shit
>>149225830Your next OC should have downs
>>149225792 (OP)its gross jewish nonsense nobody wants to look at
>>149225792 (OP)I've never seen acne in real life unless you're an absolute degenerate who never touched water.
>>149225792 (OP)As long as it's not vitiligo
>>149226033I look more like the guy on the left, but I actually shower.
>>149226033hey now, lucky has a child
>>149225792 (OP)From a design standpoint braces are easy cause they can be simplified into an easy pattern that can be drawn on the teeth and/or can be a good visual gag for those really extreme sets of braces that look like your strapping on machinery to a kid.
Stuff like acne and freckles can be difficult to tackle with though due to the issue of consistency. On a 3D character it doesnt matter cause it will just be part of a texture but for 2D you gotta make some hard choices. How many zits? where are the locations of said zits? Problems like that can make adding those kind of details a pain so you see people skip that. Now eye bags are an easy ugly feature to add cause you at least always know where there those go.
>>149226046What about re-vitiligo?
Can work. depends on how visually busy it is the end. the thing about bracers specifically is how it can fuck up some expressions if you are drawings the character far away and you can't see their teeth. In a way is why some character don't have visible eyeballs when using glasses and their glasses are the eyeballs type of deal. Traits like that are fun but they don't carry all the weight of the character. I would be much more interested if the mean girl type character was the one with the bracers or this type of dynamic.
In the realm of real imperfections I thought about at some point give my characters in porn comics real undesirable traits like dark and pepperoni nipples, or very saggy tits, but on really pretty girls. Mostly about the idea of giving this sense of realism to a character so they feel more like grounded individuals instead of idealized, for narrative purposes. If I want to draw a story about a girl developing a rape fetish after being molested, my type of storytelling, I would prefer if she felt like a real girl, someone who you may know. for that I think adding imperfections are ideal, but it often comes at a price since is porn, the number of people interested in seeing a flat ass or fridgebody is very small and there is a chance people would see as political preaching as in a "everybody is beautiful sorta of message". not my sick fuckery of trying to give a sense of reality to my rape fantasies. is interesting to think about, in my experience you learn more doing than pondering because ideas change a lot in the process of thinking them and actually putting them down in to paper.
>>149225988Nobody wants to look at you
>>149225792 (OP)I give my female OCs all kinds of "messed up" teeth like bucktooth, crooked, missing one tooth, chipped or pointed teeth because I think it's cute, plus I have fucked up teeth as well (no I'm not british).
>>149227127are you a girl? I feel prey energy coming from you. And I'm awfully good at tracking down prey.
>>149226014>I've never seen acne in real lifeYou must be 18 to post here, but you should definitely at least have reached puberty.
Braces can at least be cute on the right design and can define character traits like insecurity or geekiness. If you give your character a permanent case of acne, I'm honestly going to assume it's for a weird fetish reason or you actively want them to be uncomfortable to look at. Some things people can't help, but if you have acne all the time, the first thing a lot of people are going to think is that you're not hygienic which makes them think less of you because of how basic hygiene is.
>>149225792 (OP)Never thought about it but based on your pic i support it 9999999%
>>149226033The real blackpill is when you realize both would be incels irl
>>149225988Art should have things you don't want to look at. Not for the sake of some idpol virtues, but just to make you mad, less content with your life, and more willing to take part in violent revolution to burn down society and start anew. This is how societal change is made.
>>149225792 (OP)when done right they are a pretty cool, and honestly, necessary addition to the character. It's easier to get to like someone with a flaw. that being said, obviously you shouldn't get obnoxious about it and make it their only defining trait, or pile on as many as you can think of.
I gave my self-insert OC glasses/contacts even though I have 20/20 vision because I like what he would look like while wearing glasses. In exchange I gave him perfect teeth even though I had quite a lot of work to do on my own, so it evens out
>>149225792 (OP)None of my OCs are human beings, so no
>>149226139zits come and go in real life, they're not supposed to be consistent
If you do it cuz it makes your dick hard its okay. If you do it for "representation" or an ideological reason its bad.
>>149225792 (OP)if you plan on animating it, stuff like that can be a nightmare to track. Design your characters with their intended use in mind.
>>149229028What if you do it because it's funny?
>>149229226Only of it makes me, personally, laugh.
>>149225792 (OP)Very good, as it gives them some design diversity though really be careful and make it fit. Don't end up like some tumblr artist where your character has vitiligo or whatever. An they are super happy and positive but have cutter scars all over. Basically just think how would a real person dress or react.
But as you grow up as a artist you realize imperfections are more fun. It's a common theme in artistic prose and exaggeration that many series and artist are scared to make their characters ugly. So they give them muted or basic expression to keep their faces from looking ugly. So really comes down to their purpose and finding a happy medium, I mean, look at Helga, she got that unibrow but still has massive amounts of fanart and nsfw. so sometimes does just amount to how you portray it
>>149229390At the end of the day, that's all that matters.

>>149230585Anon, nearly all teenagers typically get acne at some point as a result of the hormonal changes of puberty. Even if you managed to be one of the lucky few who didnโt, surely you went to school and saw other teens who did? The idea someone has โnever seen acne irlโ is dumb as fuck.
>>149231814I didn't go to a 3rd world school.
>>149231831No, it sounds like you went to one where everyone used puberty blockers.
