Americans are overall not used to there being a specific style to all cartoons. Everything used t be unique unless it;s a single studio that has their own house style that they consistently use. It's weird to have this one style used by everyone across the board in every studio.

This. Jesse Aclin's concept art is one of the few bright spots from that Elio art book and is more in line with Pixar's regular art style.

Elio's final design reminds me way too much of Steven from Steven Universe. This design, however, kinda reminds me of Linguini from Ratatouille but at least it's better than Elio being a Steven clone.

Aclin's designs may not have had much effect on Elio's box office, but at least that movie's human character designs would be better than that beanmouth art style.

This wasn't the case for Tangled or even the Incredibles despite it coming out 2004. There's no excuse for Elio to look the way it other than this being a deliberate decision, op's a fag that didn't bother posting the rest of the concept art. They did a sculpt for two different versions of Elio, that's including the one in the op and one that resembles the final product a bit more.
