Why was every action-adventure protagonist like this

I would forgive most of the flaws in this movie if it didn't end with Sinbad and Marina hooking up

With whom would you have preferred Sinbad sail off into the sunset? Marina was clearly the endgame

I liked him. He's not in character to the other Sinbad movies but it's only supposed to be a spiritual successor to those and I think he's a lovable cad. I think the plot would've gone over better if the friend had a girl back home helping him out that he fell in love with so it felt less like a cuckold plot.

What a liar. No one expected Shrek to take off. Also, Sinbad would've done just fine if they hadn't been dumb and hired Brad Pitt and two other big name actors, inflating the budget to a ridiculous degree. They spent $60 million (somehow) on it and made back $80 million. If they had just used some regular actors they probably could've dropped the budget to around $34 million at least.

Same with Spirit. They spent $80 million (somehow) and made $128 mill back. If they had cut out Matt Damon at least they could've dropped probably an additional $8-$12 million off the budget.

Honestly, I think he just got dollar signs in his eyes after he saw how much Shrek made and realized 3D had higher profit margins.

He's more palatable because of how often things blow up in his face/he's subjected to slapstick humor. A confident, capable douche makes some people seethe

I find it funny how Sinbad and El Dorado are on opposite ends of spectrum
>El Dorado
Super fun movie with incredibly mid villain
>Sinbad
Incredibly mid movie with super fun villain

Even if Shrek didn't turn out the blockbuster that it did, DreamWorks would've still kept doing 3D movies. Don't forget they were developing Tusker in 1999-2000 (back when Shrek was in full production)

Sinbad didn't get positive reviews at all, so DreamWorks was likely hoping that their next non-sequel movie (Shark Tale) would get a more positive reception. Imagine their disappointment when it didn't.

That was actually the plan/Word of God what probably happened after the credits. It was supposed to e explicit before the studio made them tone it down. That's reason they get into a fight originally was supposed to be that Miguel was jealous Tulio was cheating on him with Chel.

What hackneyed blowhards.

In regards to the Sinbad reviewer: He's afraid of going against the narrative and as such is resigned to dog on the film. This is a common failing of critics as if they go too far against the grain of popular opinion they risk everyone deciding their opinion is worthless. There are many things that could be said about Sinbad: the interesting art style and direction, the animation on display, and of course the villain.

For the Shark Tale guy, I'm aware a lot of people don't like the movie and I disagree with them. I was excited for the film, I enjoyed it very much in theaters, and I've watched it many times on DVD growing up with my family. I enjoy it and think it's a good movie.

The celebrity VAs can be blamed on Robin Williams Genie
Prince of Egypt was star-studded too but it was a Bible movie so a bigger draw

Makes sense. Though, once again execs fail to realize why something worked. Kids didn't go: "Oh my gosh, it's MORK! Y'know, Mork? From Mork and Mindy? That show that was popular 15 years before any of us were born and that none of us have seen? Oh, we've got to watch that one." Robin Williams was just good at voicing a funny cartoon character. Sam with Gilbert Godfried and Iago.

Kids don't know who Matt Damon and Brad Pitt are, and they're just regular guys without super distinctive or cartoonish voices. They could've easily just gotten any voice actor. Now, if they wanted to spend the money to get Bobcat Goldwaithor that dude from Police Academy with the sound effects or something, that's a different story.

It's also thinking only locally, when you have to think globally. Not everyone speaks English, and children aren't going to recognize an actor just by their voice.
