He's incredibly beloved, but he wasn't on the blue or gold team in the 90s which is what the big X-Men boom tended to be based off of. He was in the X-Men games on Sega Genesis. He was a scene stealer in X2 then brought back for the prequels. He wasn't in X-Men: The Last Stand because Alan Cumming hated the makeup process, but supposedly it's been downsized a bunch twenty years on and he'll be in the new Avengers.
